Hey, guys first post here, I've owned my 72 Buick skylark since 1996 (high school car) haven't worked on it until now !! I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one to put an 871 on a Buick 455, but damn I can't find the right water pump setup. I've already tried the electric water pump from TA performance (blower belt 1/4 inch away from housing, not good everyone says 3/4 inch). Got the high-performance pump from TA performance and their billet pulley and that doesn't fit, this made it worse now the blower belt is ridding on the pulley !! I bought a new pulley and it still hits....what are you guys using! any help would be much-appreciated thanks!

Plate it and use welded AN fittings with a remote mount pump

You can always space it out "some", there are shims available.

you mean pop the cog gears out? Yeah, I thought of that, but I had a custom radiator hose setup using intercooler parts that would run along with the radiator inside in the engine bay. I would use duel 14-inch pusher fans. So the room inside the engine bay is taken up ...looks like this is turning into he which is more cost-effective by using a Buick lol.

looks like bds used the same Offenhauser manifold hugger, if you want the part I used for the thermostat ill share it. I called BDS, HAMPTON about moving the idler arm to the right and they all tell me well it belongs on the left!? I'm like well Buick is a different bread cant I put it to the right ? and they all said I don't know it always been on the left. They say the torque of the belt would pull the arm down making it a chance for the belt to loosen...

    There are always options :D
Shoot me a PM with your contact info and best time to give you a call.
How are you running your alternator and V-belt assembly ? Looks tight behind the lower pulley. You can run a V-drive on the front of the lower pulley. We run a gilmer(sp) drive in front to run our oil and fuel pumps.
    Where are you located?

Sure, done a couple.. the issue your having is brought on by the small size of the lower pulley.. It almost looks like your overdriving that 8-71..

Did Don Select the pulley sizes for you?

I have a setup here now, will measure the diameter of the lower pulley.

Hello Jim, Yea Don picked the pulley size for me told him I wanted 8 psi of boost. The Bottum pulley is 5 inches across and the top is 5 1/2 across.

How many teeth on your blower pulleys? I've been looking at remote water pumps and they look terrible lol. I'm thinking about getting bigger cog pulley like Jim was saying. Jim did you measure your bullies yet? Thanks

Hey guys been a few but I swapped pullies out, went with 44 on top 40 on the bottom running an electric water pump just fine with tons of clearance thanks for all the advice!
