Well, as the title states, I had my regal out at the drag strip today, from 1:30pm to about 4:30pm, and I got to make 11 passes..first a little info

It's an 87 regal limited, full interior
Engine is a 72 model 455 from an electra, only thing not stock is a 650 holley double pumper...stock exhaust manifolds/full exhaust
Car has a posi rear with 2.53 gears in it, stock 350 trans...now for some numbers

    Ran a best of

    14.6698 @ 90.76, rt of this run was .9073, and a 2.2740 60ft, I think it could have handled a little more timing...but I just didn't advance it

My best rt was .5914, but I averaged .8747
    Best 60ft time was 1.7068, but again...averaged 2.3986

Over winter I hope to get a set of headers, aluminum intake, cam, 3.23 gears, and DRs, or slicks

    Thanks for reading,
    Marshall

Good for you:TU: If I may suggest ... start with the gears and go 3:42's if you can. Keep us posted.

That run was right after a dragster that left a bunch of rubber off the line

you need a larger carb(650 aint big enough for a 455)
    recurve the dist........
your gears are not the best

you should be in the 13's in that car
my wildcat at 4600 lbs went 14.58 with a stock 455

Yes I agree on the carb, but it was the only one we had, after the stock quad crapped out...I just google searched distributor recurving...and I was complaining yesterday that if felt like it's timing wasn't advanced enough on the top end, but was fine on the bottom end...sound's like that will fix that problem

Does anyone have a recommendation for a source to buy the recurve kit? and which one I need?

I was talking to my dad, and he told me that recurving my distributor wouldn't make a difference with a stock cam? is this correct? and if not...Will I really notice a difference in the 1/4 mile?

i dropped 3-4 tenths after my recurve
    worth it to me
the recurve kit was like 8 dollars and a little time
    well worth it

Thank you for the info, is the gain due to the fact that the factory setting won't allow enough advance? I have no idea, so I could be completely wrong

The timing recurve made a big difference in my old 350-4bbl Skylark.Car was pretty much bone stock including the 2.56 open rear.

Went from not being able to break the tire loose without power braking, to smoking it anytime I chose to just floor it.

Same for me on my 72 chevelle with stock 350. Timing total advance and watching my MPH at the 1/4, more was better until the mph fell with that car.

Find what you need with what you have for now and then get a gear and carb, then start over ;) :3gears:

Where in the world were you where you could knock off that many passes!!! cool

Now, go directly to the auto salvage or bone yard of your choice and pic a nice square body S-10 balzer or truck and snag the ring, pinion, carrier, and all the bearings and spacers and keep them in order, (left spacer, and bearing race on the left..etc.) then make sure you get the pinion races too, both of them!

Most of those trucks were 3.42 with some 3.73 in 4x4s and 4.11's in the 2.5 5-speed trucks.

Go home and install repeat the process...viola' instant tire shreading action the will make such a noticable difference in your car!:3gears:

The next better step would be to find a '93-up Z-28 or Formula...pull the ring, pinion, carrier(posi) and all the bearings(most are 3.23, 3.42, and 3.73)....then get some replacement 28 spline GN or GNX or turbo Regal or even 442 axles. Now you have a posi that is for the most part bullet proof. Like I ran 11's for three years drag racing every weekend, with slicks...until the used posi broke.

Don't worry about crush a new crush sleeve. Just put the pinion in with an air impact tight enough you can 'feel' drag on the bearings, or just tight!

Then you will be looking for a good Q-jet or big Holley...750 is as small as you want, its actually too small...then maybe a small nitrous plate :Comp:
