I really dont know if this qualifies...but I took my '71 gs convert out earlier this week to run some errands.....now I just got this car and really dont have a complete handle on what she'll do yet..once the weather warms up, I'll start going through her some......the former owner put an afb on it ,which I dont care for, but havent had the time to put the original q-jet back on...

now, with this in mind I am at a stoplight, and this 20 something year old smiling punk in a beautiful '69 gto pulls up along side me and starts revving the hell out of his motor..I ignored him and the light turned green , he drove along side me revving his motor for about a half block till I got pissed and blew the doors off his judge lookalike....all he saw was N-25 !.....now at 37 I am really not into racing light to light nor do I want the hassles with the local cops....but this kid really needed to know where he stood in the food chain...
    see ya, john

Nice kill, but I can say that I admire this "kid" for have a real muscle car rather than the norm for now days...."ultra cool bad", stupid fart can muffler'd with a ridiculously excessive wing Jap Crap (or our domestic follow-the-leader wannabees)! Seen one last week that we wondered if it would even fit under the nearest underpass?!?!?:Dou:

    I agree 100%

kerry, I agree 100%.. at least he's drivin a real car...in another post I eluded that the kids today with the slammed to the ground honda accords and the like have no clue what a real car is all about.
its kinda sad cause it gets the crushers running again.. though in their sad defense ,it would be like me driving a late 40's buick in my teens/20's, which just doesnt work in my mind,so it likely goes the same with them...............but kudos to gto punk ,he lived and learned !
    best, john:blast:

Not all us kids are that bad  I'd die for a 29-32 Ford with a 425 Nailhead and 6-2bbls done like it would've been in the late 50's/early 60's (I'd even deal with the tuning nightmare!), its just cheaper and easier to find something from the late 60's/early 70's for those of us on an extremely limited budget (college kid with no formal job). I do have a Honda, but its just my beater

skyphix, no dig intended, just a generalization of how things have changed in a short amount of time culture wise...nice '70 skylark!!

Oh I know there was no dig intended... I didn't take it that way... just saying that not all of us are punks  Like Kerry said... at least he had a muscle car

Yah, I guess times are changing. Though, I certainly will respect the one or two 12 and 13 second imports in my area. I know they'd wipe the floor with me as my car is now.

Thanks for the compliment on my car as well

There's this 20 year old in town that had a 95 Camaro. He got in too much trouble with the local oinkers(too much street racing) so he was forced to sell it. Now he's got this riced out Civic. I'll admit, this is one of the more tastefully done ones, and it's relatively quiet, but when I can smoke him in my Mom's Cherokee, you know there's a problem. Give me a v-8 and RWD any day...unless it's a Toronado or Eldorado! I'd die for one of those.

The only 12 and 13 second imports here are RWD or AWD and turbo... so they are o.k. in my book (especially since they run 12's and 13's... some place I only dream of being right now :( )

I honestly wouldn't mind a Subaru. Those WRX's are really, really cool. what, 220 Hp going to all 4 wheels and 6 gears? Sure, I'll take one in black.

The two fast(est) imports here are a WRX (12.9) and a Nissan 240SX (2.0L turbo... 13.7) ... They both built their cars only to take on the import crowd and to autocross... they have no intentions on doing domestic/import battles... and they even like my car :Brow:

There are a few fast "imports" around my neck of the woods. Theres a 12 second supra (single turbo kit) and a 12 second 1st gen. eclipse turbo AWD. My sisters boyfriend has a stripped down CRX with some japanese special engine that goes 14.0s, but it has one seat, no radio, no AC. Its kinda silly to me.
But then again there are the kids with the busted ass rusty novas and camaros with a junkyard big block from a dump truck that cant get out of the 13s either. So there is always more than one way to look at the situation. I have a honda as a beater, but I need to get rid of it soon. I'll have my impala road worthy in a few months

Ive gotta keep my Honda... I can't afford 200 miles a week just back and forth to school (plus whatever else I've got to do or where I have to go) in the Skylark... that just gets way too expensive... 30 dollars a week or 22 every two weeks... plus I can't afford a different semi-fuel efficient car (i.e. Turbo Buick) ... yet :Brow:

There are some fast imports around my area too, a few 12 second turbo civics, WRXs, etc. I stick to RWD imports though, I had a 240SX and that was a great car, handled well, decent power, and good mileage, and my 350Z feels a lot like the 240 did, just with more power and even better handling. For a daily driver they are a lot better than my Buick, I drove my Buick as my daily driver last year during the late spring/early summer. With the 455 and 3.73's it only got about 10 mpg and with no A/C it was a killer on hot days, but the Buick has one thing that the imports never have - massive low end torque!

A friend recently bought a nissan 240sx and promptly blew the motor. So he decided he wanted to rebuild the car, but make it fast. He's not a ricer at all, wanted to get a 9C1 cop-car caprice, but the 240 was dirt cheep. So since he knows jack about cars, he had me do all the research and work on it (I owed him a huge favor). Long story short, I now know an impressive amount about the ricer scene, especially with import nissans. But golly is his 240 fast, almost $hit myself the first time we really laid on it. We have the SR-20 motor in there, a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder, single turbo, but I put on an upgrade turbo, bigger intercooler, different cams and upgraded fuel system, and running the boost we are now, we're estimating about 300-320 hp. guys running lmost identical combos make about that much, so its a pretty accurate guess. Now I know that doesnt sound like much, but you put all that into a rear wheel drive independant rear suspension car weighing as little as his 240 does, and its FAAAAAST. I also swapped on the bigger brakes from a 300zx and rebuilt the suspension with aftermarket peices, so it turns like its on rails and stops on a dime. After building that up and seeing what could be done (albeit a little more expensively than older iron) I ahve a newfound resepct for SOME of the import crowd. There are some guys who take it seriously and hooray to them.

    Corey,
Do you have any quarter mile times? I'm always interested in anything that's fast... I just can't see spending the money some of these guys do to get there! Some of the articles on the internet are pretty funny... "spend $5k and make a low 14 second car!" I just don't get it.

You can make a 240SX pretty fast for not too much money. If you stick with the stock engine (KA24DE) and put one of the turbo kits on it you should run low 13's or maybe high 12's for about $4000 (plus the price of the car). If you go with the SR20 swap, the motors are around $1500-$2000 by themselves, but they can be upgraded pretty easily, and I would bet low 13's/high 12's could be had for about $4000 as well.
The biggest problem I had with mine (and the 350Z too) is that they don't hook at ALL on street tires. They are really fun cars and in my opinion one of the better imports to modify.

I'll say this, if a car runs in the 12's or even the thirteens, I'll respect it... be it an import or a domestic.

btw, my friend with the 240 has an SR, we've replaced too many KA's to count :gt:

I'll second that, I have a good appreciation for any car that can break into the 12's.

One must also respect the man who BUILT it... but not necessarily the one who owns it.

I'd say Brett (the friend) has maybe 4 or 5 grand total in teh car (he bought it for a dollar), and no, don't have any quarter mile times, but from my seat of the pants feeling and how much it spanks my Buick, I'm guessing low 12's. this thing gets squirrely when boost hits, its fun. And I know exactly what you mean about traction, thats half the fun, these cars are great "drift" cars.

A month or so ago I heard the funny wine of a ricer and was about to race him (on the freeway) but it turns out a serious import was making him look like a fool. The riced out car had the wing, lights all over, fart can, etc.

The other car was also a Japanese import, but no ricer gear. You could tell by how it moved on the freeway, though, that the guy put some serious work where it counts. I can respect that.
