Really want to avoid a aftermarket trunk lid on my sons 70 Stage 1 resto . Does anyone have a nice rust free lid that is not all beat up for sale in BG ?
Hi Pat, I have a rust free trunk lid it has holes for spoiler, trunk chrome and GS emblem I stripped it to bear metal and metal prepped and painted but never installed I'm asking $400 if your interested I can take some pics and post them here or text them to you. Had to edit I hit post by mistake.
Thx . Don't want spoiler holes or moulding holes . Don't mind Fixing moulding holes. Spoiler holes may be too much .
I have a nice one from a 70 GS. No paint but has sealer primer. Has GS emblem holes for 70 and 72 position. 71 is different. No other holes. I will get to Beech Bend on Wednesday and will be set up in the swap meet area on Thursday and Friday. $125.00 If interested, please send a PM. Thanks, John
I might be interested in yours,John Osborne,if he is not. I have a perfect one with no holes, but not sure of the exact year. My friend brought it back from Nevada about 20 years ago.
I have a real nice one from a 71 S-I,can bring it to BG,but needed to be paid in advance for me to bring it there.$100.00 .Bruno.
Actually the above post is not completely accurate. The 1968 thru early 1070 trunk lids were a different style then the mid 70 thru 72 trunk lids. The inside skin on the earlier trunk lids is closer to the outer skin and looks different. The easy way to tell them apart is by looking at the underside area where the rear spoilers would mount. If it has the two "dimples" pressed in, where the spoiler bolts would go, then it is the later style. If they are not there, then it is an early trunk lid. Duane
I was answering the OP and thought maybe if he was concerned about not using an aftermarket trunk lid, that he might want to check to see what type he had so he was not putting a wrong original one on the car. It seemed to me he was interested in a correct piece for his son's Stage 1. Duane
So,”if” you install a spoiler,is there any other way to determine if it is an early 70 lid? I have three 1970 GS’s. A September/69,November/69,and a February/70. When did the change phase in during 1970 production?
Brian, I have never tracked when the change took place, but if you try to install a spoiler on an early trunk lid I do not believe it would look correct from the underside. Maybe someone can post some pics of the differences. I have no early trunk lids to check. Your Feb 70 car should have the later style. Duane
Two of my winged trunk lids were NOT done at the factory,so they are not a good reference. Would you say that the 68-69 Chevelle trunklid would be the same as the early 1970,or not sure? Nothing to compare to?
I imagine the 68-69 trunk lids are the same as the early 70 units, but I cannot say for sure. The ones with the 2 dimples for the rear spoiler bolt holes are the later year style. The others are different in that area. If someone posts pics of that area, you can see the differences. Duane
It just simply follows the same shape of the lid there by the latch around to the edges Putting a spoiler on these lids looks like hell because your drilling an access hole on the roll of the underside
That makes perfect sense because the PO that installed the wing on my Feb/70 car used a cut-off wheel to make access openings for the rear studs, and the PO of my November/69 car just simply didn’t install the nuts on the rear studs.
