    Guys
    this is my 1st post in this section..
    i scored a fantastic deal in my neighbor hood.
    a neighbor sold me a 70' Cutlass Supreme SX convertible fully dissasembled but in great condition.
    a W32 code car = 455, 12 bolt posi car.
    the gentlemen moved the car with him 25 years ago from Virginia to TX and has not done much to it since then, most of the parts are still in the labelled boxes.
    the frame was powder coated and it has a Global west suspension setup.
    otherwise is absolutly stock with a virgin 455 Olds
    i had to say yes since i think its a easy job for me to put it back together to orig specs and have it as a great family driver or sell it once its assembled

    PS it will not be a complete # matching car based on the suspension upgrades and the engine is actually a F block 455 so not the original. However i keep it pretty much stock since i dont think hotrod parts such as alu heads and intakes ( more affordable for Olds) will increase the value. So i got some fresh ported J heads with bigger valves and valve springs + a nice comp cam/lifter for a good deal, so i can use my Iron Intake manifold,
    the Block seems pretty good , the crank needs a polish but the rods and pistons look good as well and everything is absolutly precise labelled so i take some meassurements and if i feel comfortable i just do new rings and slap it back in.

    take a look

    Cool, F block is correct. Right by oil filler tube are you talking? All I have ever seen have F followed by casting number. Is it a two barrel?

    Nice!!! Love those SXs. I MIGHT have some C heads for sale if I decide to go aluminum on my Delta 88. I will let you know if you're interested, might be end of summer before I know for sure on what I'm doing. Definitely not going to be a ridiculous price. Were redone in the 90s and had them in storage since then.

    Thanks but I got ported/decked J heads already fresh from the machine shop for 450$ ...I cant get build heads any cheaper.

    I have a set of E heads here and all the machine work would at least cost me 800$

    Is the part number up front by the F different than earlier blocks or are you going by VIN?

    Nice score, the 69-70 Oldsmobile Cutlass is a weakness of mine. I would have jumped on it too, if I was financially able..
    Can't wait to see it together and rolling under it's own power....KUDOS, JIM

    The block VIN shows it is a 1974 vintage.
    3 = GM division (Oldsmobile)
    4 = year (1974)
    E = (I think that's an E?) manufacturing plant (Linden, N.J.)
    178329 = vehicle sequence number

    It looks like they added digits on that number. In 72 it was just year (2) followed by six digits. At least in Flint cars. Maybe all the GMAD plants did it that way all years. Why not just grind it off and be done with it? I would not mind if it’s not matching. It’s. Nice car.

    yea I dont mind either. It came with bare E heads. That I sold already. And I was able to score a fresh machined /milled and ported set of iron J heads with bigger valves and springs + a mild comp cams/lifter combo that match the heads for 500$ ... I couldn't get any heads build for that $ at a machine shop.
    So I keep it oem looking with iron intake but I would like to get headers at least , even though I have the oem manifolds.

    Well, this question makes me proud :)
    German is my mother tongue. English is my second language. However, my english improved quite a bit while living in US for almost 9 years. I returned to Germany 2007 and I live in Schweinfurt since.
