I've been wanting to get to the track for awhile and see how well my GS actually runs, it feels strong on the street, but that gets old without knowing exactly how well, plus its not safe.
I did the power timing per Larrys thread, and WOW what a difference! I had about 42 deg. total timing, WAAAY TOO MUCH!
I had to make my own advance stop bushing since MSD's largest bushing wasn't getting the job done, so now Im at 30/32 total all in at 2000 rpm and 18 to 20 initial.
I was going to go this Friday, but my 10 year old battery gave up, so I had to buy a new one plus change my cables back to side terminal.
Its gonna be fun to see what this sumbitch will do:beer

Take your timing light and the msd bushings. Try out some different settings. Maybe less initial with more total depending of fuel you're using.

    Going to Norwalk.
Yes TA 413 cam, block decked .050, heads cut .030, I forget the piston number, but they're suppose to be 9.25 to 1 at .020 in the hole, mine are at .005 TA big stainless valves, heads ported, TA intake matched to the heads (opened way up on the ports) TA headers, 2.5 inch duals with Walker 17749 mufflers, cross drilled crank, ATI convertor (stalls around 2800 before tires break loose) 3.42 limited slip 12 bolt rear
Yep, I hope to fly the Buick 350 banner way high:TU:

Hope u are taking those stock tires off and putting on some stickies, going to need it. Mt drag radials worked the best for me. If you can foot brake it to 2800 you are going to have a great launch out of the hole. The one convertor I had in with the 350 trans would let me foot brake it to 3 grand and I had 60 fts. in the mid 1.70 range, Rocket ship out of the hole.

When you stage up to the lights creep up till you just get that second yellow bulb to light up and you will get your best ET. Once you have that bulb lit up just do not let the car creep foreword when you go up on the stall, sometimes the car will push into the light and this will slow your ET some. If that happens next time down the track put more on the gas as you creep into the second light then hold the car there and push it to 2800 rpm for your best ET and 60 ft. You might be able to push to 3 grand with sticky tires. It will then launch like a Freight train.

Thanks for the info and tips:TU:
I was wondering if the street radials (245-60 Goodrich TA's) were going to hook or spin, Damn, I can see it now, Im gonna get hooked on this racing thing:TU::TU:

If possible I would get a set of drag radials before I went to the track...

Like today, Summit is open tip 9 pm and I know you are only a half hour away or so so git on down there and be done with it. MT drag radials are the best to use BFG's suck, I was starting to look into Hoosier quick time tires they have a little more tread than the Mickeys. Plus a little cheaper. I use 275-60-15. Stop reading this and get down there you have 4 days left!

    Well...Yeah!:grin::laugh:

You could get the air bags that go into the springs and then you raise the right side pass bag to 25 lbs. and run the drivers rear bag to 5 lbs. and this will ensure the right side does not lift up and spin. This really helps if you do not have posi. Even with posi this will help in the traction department.

If your getting slicks get a driveshaft safety loop. Required by track. Neutral safety has to work and nneed coolant overflow tank.. Get some 3.90 gears too.

Damn wish it was Friday already!
HAHAHA, see I can feel it starting already, Im itchin to get to the track, Im thinkin' of slicks and a drive shaft loop, Already have the coolant overflow and neutral safety works. Maybe bump the timing a couple degrees....................... wait a minute, I haven't baselined the car yet:Dou:

Alright! Good Luck! I got the bug too!

Suggestion would be to just run the car the way it is setup right now between 3- 5 passes to get a good feel and baseline then make a list of what needs to be looked at in order to achieve your next goal.

Yep, that's my plan, run it in "street driven" form, then decide where to go from there. I have a feeling traction is going to be my biggest issue, but we'll find out this evening:TU:

Best of luck Mark!! My car is not as built as yours and I had problems with traction, but looking forward to hearing how yours turns out

Trying to launch a Buick at the track with regular street radials is an exercise in futility:grin: You will never get your best traction, therefore, you will never see your best ET. I hope you did well in any case.:TU::TU:

Well here it is guys, my best time of the night was my first run. BFG TA Radials (Larry called it, street radials suck ) Stock GS air cleaner in place (K&N filter inside), timing at 22 initial 34 total all in at 2000 rpm. I foot braked it to (I think) 1500 rpm
    R/T .448
    60' 2.138
    330' 6.207
    1/8 9.569
    MPH 72.64
    1000' 12.52
    1/4 15.032
    MPH 89.94

Second run I removed the factory air cleaner lid and put on the K&N Extreme flow lid to see if it would help my mph, I completely blew the tires off, the run was HORRIBLE, I couldn't drive around the water, it was the whole width of the lane, so I did another short burn out, pull up to stage, foot brake it to about 1800 rpm, (I think) I leave after the last yellow goes out, and there comes that Buick torque, Im spinning sideways, Damnit:af: I get outta it then back in, HELL IM STILL SPINNING, WTF, well I stay into it and enjoy the ride, heres how the second slip reads,
    R/T .627
    60' 3.038
    330 7.464
    1/8 10.876
    MPH 72.10
    1000' 13.847
    1/4 16.36
    MPH 89.77

I wanna go for a third run, Im tryin for a high 14 and get my MPH over 90, well the third run didn't happen, a racer oiled down the track, we wait and wait, about 10:45 pm they start racing again and decide to finish up the classes so everybody can get a third pass in, but slicks are first, then junior dragster, THEN D.O.T.
While we were waiting I changed to the short yellow spring in the Holley to get the secondaries to open quicker thinking it might help my mph, and foot brake it to ONLY 1000 rpm to try and not blow the tires off, WELLLL we (wife and I) were tired by now, had an hour and fifteen minute ride ahead to go home, so we called it, and gonna try for next Friday, the last day for TNT for the season.
    This racing thing is fun:TU:
I have ALOT to learn, and theres ALOT to pay attention too!! Such as I need to move my Temp and oil pressure gauge to the right about 6" so the wheel isn't blocking the view.
Im all ears to any tips or tricks from you seasoned racers:grin:
