Jim you mentioned the stock fuel pump being a PITA to install. What about the new block makes it that way? Casting of the block itself?
Yes. The stock block is cast or machined with a relief to make room for the stock pump. These blocks are flat across the front.
Saw your car in person at BG...had to look very close to see that new block. It was good to see you and that car back out there again. It launched clean, ran smooth and was surprisingly quite, like a Buick should be. You must be happy with your results.
Speaking of light weight parts from our old friends in California, the acid dipped hood from the GSX is in my barn.
Jim - can you give info on the build ? I understand if you don't want it public .. Also, how streetable would you consider it ? I'd LOVE to do something like that to my wagon
I have no secrets with Buick guys. It should be pretty streetable, even with the compression. Its a 4.500 Moldex stroke, 4.500 bore 572 with about 14.65-1 compression. TA Roller cam, Carillo steel rods, B4B, TA Stage 1's, qjet and iron exhaust manifolds, TA front cover and oil pump and stock TA oil pan. TH400 with Coan converter and too much gear at 4.10. TA 3" full exhaust. Car weighed 3810 in BG with me with Buick Ralleys. Its all steel, full interior etc. I even run it with the spare tire in place in the trunk. Bone stock suspension front and rear with adjustable shocks. I would have no problem driving it to cruise night, in fact I plan to. The car is not radical sounding or loud and is very easy to drive.
Thanks Jim .. appreciate your info. Only thing I think I'd change is lowering the compression to permit pump gas on long haul road trips. I've got a GearVendors, TH400 with lower first/second gearset and a 12-bolt 3.55 sitting in the garage waiting ... come on, Christmas Bonus !! Good luck in the fine tuning .. do you think it has a 9 in it ?
Wow, gonna be fun to see. I hope you will have it fine tuned soon, so we can hear your single digit number :3gears:
