Anyone done this updrade? I’m just looking for positive reinforcement that the alternator exciter wire should be fused and have a resistor. Well, more like confirmation that the fuse is 10amps and the resistor is 10 ohm 10 watt. I found basic resistors on Amazon. There are some really nice ones in other ohm/watt that are enclosed in a small aluminum housing to help with heat dissipation, but not the 10 ohm 10w.
You can use the factory GEN light as the resistor to excite the alternator. There is a wire hooked to the stock regulator ( i think it will be a brown wire). If you ground it with the key on the GEN light should come on. This wire hooks to the #1 terminal on the alternator.
If you haven't seen these before, might be something worth checking out. I put one on my '60 Caddy, runs the Gen light properly, charges 14.2 V instantly. Bolt on like stock, headlights mucho brighter. Couldn't be happier, and no fabbing/modding necessary. https://www.summitracing.com/search...=part-type&SortBy=Default&SortOrder=Ascending
