Other than a gasket for the sending unit, is there anything I need to replace the fuel sock in my car?

Taking it in to a shop and they work faster with all the needed parts!

If your tank is anything like the one in my '67 there's no need to drop the tank to work on the sending unit. It's accessible from under the car because it's mounted at the top towards the front of the car. Just make sure your fuel level is low enough to remove the sender without any gas pouring out. The only parts you may need is a new o-ring and possibly a new retainer ring and of course a new fuel sock.
