Anyone know if there’s a KYB or Bilstien front shock replacement for the ‘70 Electra 4 door? Really don’t want to use one of the three or four I’ve found so far which I think are Monroe, Gabriel or AC Delco and SenSen?

If those are the only ones available. Which is the better pick?

AC Delco, Monroe or Gabriel or SenSen? Never heard of SenSen before.

I have KYB in the rear, like them and would like KYB up front too. Just can’t locate.

    Thanks,

    Paul

I have these both front and rear that I had on my 72 Electra for a while but felt they were a little too firm in the ride.

If they also fit a '70 make me an offer. Not looking to get rich :)

    Cheers
    Bob

KYB KG4515 is the KYB shock for the front

I recently installed the Monroe OEspectrum front and rear on my 68.
    No complaints

    Bob,

Thanks for the offer on the shocks. Already have KYB out back. You say they felt a bit too firm for your liking. Which shocks are you currently running up front?

As I’ve been driving with the KYB out back, thinking I too may want to run a less stiffer shock. Just curious which brand you’re running up front.

    Thanks again,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I'm running Gabriel Load Carrier Shocks 43049 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/GAB-43049) at the back and
Gabriel Load Carrier Shocks 34073 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/GAB-34073) up front.

    Cheers
    Bob

    ElectraBob and Mark,

I looked up the load carriers. Appears there’s a coil spring around those shocks. Wondering. Will the load carriers fit inside the cars front coil spring?

I’m assuming the ‘71-‘76 Electra used the same front coil spring suspension with the shock inside the cars coil spring as the ‘65-‘70 Electra?

Also, after instal of load carrier shocks. Was ride too harsh?

I have noticed after I installed the new Detroit HD springs and KYB shocks in the rear, she’s a bit stiffer out back. But I do plan on traveling with the old girl and didn’t want a saggy rear after a suitcase or two and some tools are put in the trunk.

Prior to swapping the rear coil springs, I had notice one coil in the passenger spring was bowed way outside the other coils and she had a considerable sag. Unloaded, that spring returned to normal. Under load, that coil would pop right back out. Hence the replacement.

Front shocks are still original ‘70s issue and are shot, they’ve gotta go!

    Thanks again for the help.

    Paul

They should go right up thru the lower control arm, IIRC, removing the J-clip affords more room to slide the shock assembly up and in.

If the replacement front shocks have a coil spring around them, I don't know how you could get them in.

Here is a comparison between the KYB and Gabriels I fitted to my '72 Electra.
