It's about an hour south of Flint off US-23, Milan Dragway Web page They've done alot of work there, since going with IHRA last year. I haven't been there in a couple of years as the October invitational race with the Royal Pontiac crew, where they invite the Buicks and Olds to run against them has been the same weekend as the BCA Board Meetings. The BCA Races ??? Really ????

    Hi Roberta,

Got some questions about the race, and an observation to share.

First, the observation. I had time to catch up on some of my internet reading today, and read up on the BPG Nats thread over on the BPG Forums. As one of the BPG founders, I was interested in the possibility of hooking up with the BCA PD. But there's that nagging perception that the BCA is only into showing original cars, complete with bias ply tires, tar-top batteries, and tower hose clamps, and that there's no place for a modernized, modified, maintained driver. Recent example: I sent in my registration with the Friday race clearly marked and $25 included in the fee total. I get an email back saying I overpaid. I email reply that its for the RACE. I get a reply back that the spectator fee is only $5, and is collected at the track, and I'll get my overpayment refunded. E-gads! I email back that I am going to the track to RACE, not to WATCH. OK, registration is now straightened out. Geez.....

Now for the questions: I'm bringing the 64 Rivi, expecting to run 15's. Is the OEM lap belt ok for tech? No shoulder belts yet in a 64. Also, no overflow for the radiator in 64. Do I have to install one to pass tech there? (Oh my another bastardization) And the OEM battery hold down is a J-bolt setup, a NHRA no-no. Will that be OK? Basically, what are the tech issues we need to watch out for at Milan?

The inspection at Milan willl be very lenient. The street cars that come to play will get a cursory look and unless they have a glaring problem, will be allowed to run. There will also be some very fast Buicks there , and we will make sure that they all are safe. This is meant to be an enjoyable outing, and to introduce the BCA members that are new to drag racing to the sport! :)

Do you know how they'll feel about convertibles with no roll bars running in the low 12's? I was wondering as I'd hate to drive all that way just to watch everyone else race. Thanks.

I've tried calling but all I get is their answering machine.

Noone will ask you ,and if they do ,tell them it runs high 13s and they will not be keeping track of who does what. I don't think it will be a problem. My convert runs 13.0s and they have never bothered meat Milan :) :beer

Joe or Roberta (or someone familiar with Milan) -
Will I need to take the wire-wheel hubcaps off to race? Or will they let me leave them on?

John, They may require you to remove those caps, as they are REALLY heavy! I am not sure though and you may get by with them.
Bobb, I talked to the track the other day, and they said that the track would be prepared for their Friday night race, and should be in good shape. With the amount of street cars and first time racers, I do not know how good the track will stay. Tell Jeff to bring the BIG DOG and hopefully the track will be good.

Here is the skinny on Milan Dragway. Since your club has rented the track for Friday morning, the tech will be very leinent. Just have double springs on the carb. Battery with clamp, J-bolt is good. Catch can of sort for the rad. One can rig a pop bottle next to rad to catch coolant. Milan has made tremendous leaps with its track. It will hook. It hooks as good as Norwalk now. After 4:00pm there track opens for its regular T&T Friday program with a street class running for a 100.00

I also noted that BPG has Norwalk on July 31. The Oldsmobile Dick Miller Nats are Aug 1 through Aug 3.

I am going to attend the Flint 100th as a spectator. I am interested in Oldsmobiles sister company. Unfortunately with Olds demise, I will have to back another GM company and since Buick is the second oldest. Buick 100, Olds 106, Ford 100 too bad GM has made the Buick 100 as big as Ford did.
