Flint Flyer Update. (1966 GS)

Discussion in 'News and Announcements' started by Tyler Townsley, Mar 13, 2021.

  1. Many years ago I posted information on a 66 GS owned by a friend. A lot has happened to include a book written by friend on these cars. If you are Florida come by. This was Buick answer to the Chevelle X16. Front Cover.jpg Poster Large copy-1.jpg

Thanx Tyler. The book is at the USA printer in Ohio and will be available March 27th. The book may be previewed and ordered at either www.tachometerpublishing.com or on eBay.
Hoping that the Sloan Museum Auto Fair happens this summer so the FLINT FLYER can return home to the City of Flint where she was born 55 years ago!

That's very interesting! I will try to find which month Motor Trend... after that it should be easy to get a copy.

If your interested the original "scoop" was had by Eric Dahlquist in the Hot Rod April 1966 issue with red Dyno Don Nickolson Mercury Comet drag car on the cover and a byline "Blueprinting Buick 401/425 for Drags"

Thanks for the links, one of ebay magazine was sold for a winning bid of .99 cents. There are a few other July 1966 available though.

What makes it more confusing is the Hemmings L76 GS has all the smog stuff and one magazine "Mordern Rod" March 1966 has a 11:1 401 Flint Flyer without smog equipment.
    Now i'm thinking the Hemmings was a 10.25 340hp Q-jet pilot car?

Yup they went anywhere from 12.9 to 13.6 as far as I remember.

The recessed rear window is pretty cool which was shared by the other 66 to 67 A bodys.
I think the rear of the 66 GS looks a little better than the 67 rear but the front of the 67 looks better with its sharper and extended W lines plus the bigger fake scoops.

Would like to see a 66 GS with a 67 GS front.
    Who can photo shop??:D

To "PGSS" Your thoughtful reservations are well understood. Pretty much everything in my books is brand new information. I do not recycle old stale articles. If my books story, photos and official documents do not shock and awe you then nothing will.
You may preview all of my books at www.tachometerpublishing.com or on eBay. At both places you will find out each book's number of pages, number of word and number of documents as well as a description.
I couldn't cram in another word unless it was in the margins. As for making money... I'm retired. I've studied GM history and personally lived 40 years of it from 1968-2008. My thousands and thousand of hours could not earn back even five cents per hour.
It's never been about money for me... its about exposing the unknown truth and untold successes of GM, Buick and Chevrolet and its people. I refuse to print and bind anywhere but in the United States of America and doing so is very expensive. Shipping a 5-pound book is also expensive.
I have visited the printing and binding factory in Ohio and I've met all of the hard working dedicated Americans helping me get new automotive stories and history finally told. The first book I wrote in 2007 was; "The History of GM's Ramjet Fuel Injection on the Chevrolet V-8 and its Corvette Racing Pedigree".
It was the 2007 Corvette Owner's Group book of the year and it sold for $75. It has been out of print for 5-years and it now sells "used" on Amazon for several hundred to $1,000.

Also, My very good and long time Corvette friend and Buick V8 Forum member Tyler Townsley passed away unexpectedly April 6, 2021. Tyler attended the FLINT FLYER's debut on March 27th at Kelley Buick in Bartow Florida and posted his post on this string the same day.
Tyler will be sorely missed. RIP my friend!

I did not know Tyler Townsley passed away suddenly and my condolences to you losing a great friend.. Now I feel really guilty..
