Which is required on a 10 second car, A flexplate shield or a tranny shield?

What are you guys running for a shield? I have a 1972 GS that I won't cut up to make it fit. Looking for recommendations.

    Thank you.

NHRA rules require that any automatic transmission equipped car running 10.99 or quicker or faster than 135 mph ( 217 km/h ) must be equipped with a transmission shield or blanket-type shield with a SFI rating of 4.1. The straps on the blanket can handle 24,000 pounds of pressure.
    Quick Google search.....JIM

I put mine in when I dropped the motor and tranny in. I would guess you could drop thr crossmember and fit it in.....it uses the top 4 bolts to retain it. I had to trim the ears off to get it to lay better......I dont think it would be required......
