hey, i have a 69 riv that im wanting to put some fairly big slicks under. Right now the car has a GM 10 bolt with the wishbone suspension and coil overs. What would be the best way to put some big slicks under it. Also i want to tub it. Get a ford 9 inch or 12 bolt and chop it and throw it under there? Do i need the wishbone suspension? Remove coil overs?? Any input would help thanks
A few questions: How heavy will the car be? Will it be street driven? How fast / how much horsepower? How large are the slicks?
im not sure how much the stock weight is, but the car will have a few lighter weight stuff on it. Fuel cell, back seats, inner fenders..... so a few hundred pounds lighter than stock. yes the car will be street driven. Im looking hopefully for eventually an 11 second car, with 500 hp. Slicks will be 14 inches wide.
It all depends on what you are after. If you just want the steamroller look tub it using a rear clip with ladder bars. A heavy car with high horsepower and hard launches will put more stress on the rod ends and you will need to keep an eye on them for stretching and bending. Ladder bars also won't allow the rearend to rotate much so pulling in and out of driveways at an angle puts more stress on the components. If you want to go as fast as you can with that 500hp, you won't need to tub it at all, and you'll want to stay away from the wider slicks as they eat up more power. You may be able to mini tub the rear and get plenty of tire back there without needing to do a full back half. If the rear frame section on your Riv is wider than the frame on an A-body, you could swap in the rear section and widen the inner wheel wells. This would also allow you to buy any rear parts for the A-body and bolt them on, like a ford 9" from Moser or aftermarket upper and lower arms. The most bang for the buck is to stuff the widest tire you can under there and have fun with it!
ok thanks, if i put a 9 inch under it would i be able to get rid of most of my rivi suspension? like the wishbones, coil overs, shocks and i think a pan hard bar? or at least a few? My plans for the car are mainly street, but the occasional strip.
