    Hey all,

So after completing the restoration of my heater box and AC evap box, I was looking under the dash and think it would be a good time to replace the firewall pad and underneath cowl insulation.

Which company have you guys found to offer the best fitment and quality?

Also, would I be able to install the firewall pad without removing the steering column? I know the gas pedal and fuse box would need to be removed since the edges go behind those. The heater box is already out so that is a big plus.

Not sure how hard the cowl insulation would be, I might not replace that depending on what is needed to be removed.

    Thanks for the help.

Hey, I'm in the same boat...These are all good questions. I just bought an insulation pad from TPP (The parts place # IN6422Z). They make one for non AC as well.

I haven't installed it yet, but I was thinking the same thing, everything needs to be off the firewall first. Only thing I have installed is the parking brake foot mechanism, which I think I need to remove so the pad can be installed.

I'm not sure what you mean by the underneath cowl insulation. I can't remember if I pulled something else out (years ago). I remember the firewall pad. Do you have a picture of the old stuff and where it came from?

Is there anyway to add insulation behind the instrument cluster without taking off everything?

I have some extra hvac insulation for ducting that may work.

Also, I noticed my defronster ducting is not completelynconnected to the heater box. Heat definitely can escape. Is there supposed to be some type of gasket, sealant or maybe tape to secure them?

There is supposed to be an air gap between the two.

It will bee best to have the dash area as clean as you can get it. You will want the cluster and column out of the way. I installed the one form Parts Place. used 3m super 77 an the plugs that came with it. came out real nice. It is worth it in the end . You can also lean up the cluster with it out.
