Overnight,or after several hours,I get a noise on startup.Truck is 2000 chev 1 ton 350 gas engine auto. Kinda sounds like rod knock to be honest, but never does it after a few seconds. tried it with ac off wondering if it was compressor but its the same. Oil pressure is same as its always been and it sounds perfectly normal after startup. Always changed oil on reg. basis, and I dont beat on it at all. Its been my tow vehicle since new and daily driver,Im almost done payin it off and Im keeping it.Its got 84000 miles.Any ideas?thanks..fish
check flywheel to converter bolts fish, check flywheel to converter bolt, i just had the same problem, 2 bolts had worked loose, sounded bad,,tightened bolts, noise gone. chris
I believe this is due to a piston slap shared by most Chev engines of that vintage. As I understand it GM was asked to do a recall but refused while conceding that is the source of the noise.
My 2001 had the same problem, it clattered on startup. GM told me it was piston slap and that they wouldn't repair or recall it cause it was nothing to worry about. They did offer to extend the warranty though. I delieve that this is also a problem with the 6.0 liter, but I think there is a class action suit for the big engine.
Dang... well I guess I can deal with it coz piston slap doesnt hurt anything, its just side clearance cold,it shuts up quick. As long as its not rod knock I can deal. Thanks for the help guys...fish :TU:
