Just found this out???This is my local track but for what I have heard this rule is going to be everywhere soon for nhra and ihra Just a reminder to everyone. As of April 1st 2009 all cars running 9.99 or faster must have a lower engine comtainment system (diaper) or may use a belly pan.Belly pan must be approved by tech department. Diapers DO NOT have to be SFI 7.1 cert. Check IHRA rule book for pro classes. The belly pan must extend from frame rail to frame rail and extend forward of the harmonic balancer and rearward to the rear engine plate or bellhousing and must incorporate a minimum 2 inch highlip on all sides a non flammable, oil absorbent liner inside of retention devise. Thank You Buddy Scurto NED Tech Director. Anyone have one or know of one that fits with stock motor mounts also there isn't much room between the cross member and the oil pan??
My understanding of the rule (at least for NHRA) is that it's for Divisional or National events, not weekly bracket programs. Not sure how true that is. I'm going to get a diaper for my '65 but, being mine is a tube chassis car, it won't be too tough to fit it in there.
Ditto here too Doug. I just went over to the NHRA site, re-checked '09 rule book and updates. Googled it for any recent information. Only thing I found is Nationals Meets it will be needed. I would figure its not regarding safety as it is to make sure the delays in a televised program are short from less time on oil down clean ups.
I am sure you got that right but I am pretty sure oil on the rear tires of a 10 second or quicker can be a safety issue.uzzled:
I can't get the same answer to this question MRP tech told me you need it period, others say no I would like a definite answer (a diaper is gonna suck on a street carou:
AS far as i've heard New England drag way is 100% evey car that runs faster than 9.99 will need a containment system and the tracks are all looking at the rule so I think it going to be another thing to need to go fast.I got a few i;m looking at but the prices are a little crazy at $500.00 but still lookingou: ou:
Even for test & tune and weekly bracket cars? They are going to be turning away a lot of money this summer.
I have seen them for less than $500. John Jr. Csordas installed one on his Skyhawk, a generic type to fit most any big block, he paid around $200. Bit of a pain to get it to fit, but it's on the car. Only thing is his Skyhawk is a tube chassis. I guess like most of us I will look into it and get it only if any of the tracks I run make it mandatory.
Gonna be alot of fun to get it all the way across the frame rails from balancer to the flexplate on a full chassis car with standard headers too.
On a chassis with motor plates is easy but it need to bbe custom made to go around the motor mounts and fit between oil pan and cross member still look around for cheaper one but allways get what you pay forou:
Her you go try this http://www.enginediapers.com/ I think this place was just at a drag expo i attended. Also look in a national Dragster there are a few places in there.
Not that I have to worry about it...but from the link posted above... You do NOT need a SFI Diaper for any Sportsman car.
Scott, you are correct...but you do need one that's "NHRA approved" to run 9's in NHRA and I'd imagine IHRA has a similar requirement. That's the difference between a $500 diaper and a $169 diaper. The expensive SFI one probably does a better job of holding broken parts in, but minimally they're both just supposed to keep oil off the track. I think if I get one, I'm getting the cheapest piece of crap out there, because no matter which one you get, it's still going to melt when it touches the headers. Ask Larry Clark. His melted at Columbus.
Mike, I heard Jim Dayotas had a reasonable guy who sends you patterns and you mock them up, then ship them back. Not sure if this is the same guy you're talking about.
I only have a couple inches of clearance between my pan and the ground on JAGUICK. If I manage to even get one on it will drag the ground......
Well diaper clearance shouldn't even be an issue for you, since you only need it if you run 9.99 or quicker, and we all know you've been banned from doing that. Every track east of the Mississippi is probably aware that your car isn't 9-second legal!! HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!
