    I know this has been asked before so please bear with me. I am going to uprade to an enclosed trailer. I am thinking around 24 ft by 8.5 wide. What I need to know is if I can drive in with a 1972 GS and open the door to get out. The bottom of the door is around 12"s high. Will a roadside door work? Will the door clear the wheelwell. I am a little to large at 275 to squeeze out the window. I know Mike Garrison had a nice trailer built this way.Just want to make sure before I buy one. Thanks for any info. Chris

    Hi Chris;

    I have a 24ft Haulmark model TSR 85X24WT2 enclosed car trailer which is 97" wide inside, I think that is as wide as you can go. I can drive my 72 GS into it and get out as long as the drivers side window is down. I have a bit of a beer gut (some might say a big beer gut) but i can still manuver myself out of the car with out banging the door on the wall. I find if I drive the car in as close as I can to the passenger side wall it gives me even more room to get out. The trailer wheel wells (at least on the Haulmark) are low enough that the car door clears them when you open it.

    Make SURE you specify the minimum measurement from the floor of the trailer to the bottom of the roadside escape door opening. If you do not, the trailer manufacture will always set the floor too low for you to use the escape door. Ask me how I know. You should shoot for 9-10" from the floor of the trailer to the bottom of the opening of the escape door.
