I have a tiny 17gpm electric pump on my Firebird and it's iffy on temps above 95F and cruising above 70mph. But as soon as I slow down the temp goes down. When I get a turbo on it I plan on upgrading to a 55gpm pump. I've driven that car to California a few times (1200 miles round trip) and to Salt Lake City and Las Vegas a few times (>500 miles round trip). Seems to do okay and an electric pump is way easier to get than a Pontiac L6 mechanical pump.
I chose electric on our Tomahawk, so if it ever started getting hot, I can kill the engine and keep the coolant circulating and cooling. Its a no brainer for the big dollar engines Cheers
Keep in mind, most of our big blocks have heat problems in rush hour traffic and idling. An electric pump is a big plus at idle and low rpm engine speed. New alternators like CS130D give enough power @ low rpm. The durability from a meziere pump is over 3000h running time, for a weekend fun car a lot time...
