Customer runs 7500 rpm on his sbc with over 700 lift, just rollers rockers and adjustable plates.....no girdles on smaller studs. No issues. But the larger studs flex less......but not sure if you use the 3/8 threads in the heads if it will help.much and having those upsides may or may not be possible

I watched a show (I think it was called Engine Masters or something like that) that did a side by side comparison of stock, Edelbrock, and another manufacturer's aluminum heads. The power difference was in favor of the Aluminum heads, but only by a very small amount. The people doing the testing recommended the Aluminum heads, principally for the weight savings. As I recall, they liked the Edelbrock heads best, but again it was very close.

    Are these heads currently available?
I know a lot of edelbrock stuff is not.

I buying them privately from a gentleman here in Canada. Not sure what the availability is on the Edelbrock aluminum heads for Buicks right now bit I know TA is backlogged for quite awhile. If some TA SE heads come up somehow somewhere I'll grab them (as it's what I truly want) and sell the eddy heads.

I have Eddy heads on the green car. They were one of the last sets Greg Gessler did before.movimg to strictly carb stuff. I've been happy with them and they really were the key to getting my engine to the power level it's at. I wish I would've dyno'd it with the small valve irons I had rebuilt before deciding to go to the Eddy's. As mentioned, they are a little noisy, but not a big deal. I was going to do the adjustable guide plate thing and just haven't gotten to it. I will say you will be leaving a lot on the table if you don't have them ported. That's where they shine.

I didn't cut down the plates. The adjustable plates are available to purchase. I'm not sure where as they were supplied when I did the motor. I think JW may know where.

I'm definitely having them ported 100% and I'm going to look into the adjustable guide plates. If you get around to doing yours post up some pics.

Oh ok I misunderstood what you meant Gary. I'll check with JW and see if he can point me in the right direction for them.

Thanks for the link Larry, very informative. I have tried searching on here, I've also tried Google and adding v8buick.com after what I was searching. I came up with some stuff but not that thread. Next time I'll just hit up the one and only powerful Wizard of buicks and skip the headaches lol:p

Side note I'm picking up the heads tomorrow after work:D:).

It took me a couple of tries. Just had to search the right terms, and add Jim Weise as the "posted by member", and it came right up.

Yeh I didn't even know about the adjustable guide plates. These heads and their issues is all new to me. These heads basically fell in my lap and I couldn't pass them up so I'm learning on the fly about the eddy heads and their issues.

Next time type this format in Google, it works exceedingly well.

    Site:v8buick.com adjustable guide plates

The "site:" format zeros in the search on that specific domain only.

No sweat. I've had better luck using that method than most forums search features.

I've been using that trick for years.

It also works on DuckDuckGo.com if you are trying to stave the monster.

Additionally, you can exclude words you don't want to find with a minus in front of the word. This will search V8Buick.com for posts about rear ends but not 8.5s: site:V8Buick.com rear end -8.5
