Ede 1405 300-4 Linkage ADDED Videos

    66 skylark auto switch pitch
300ci swapped to 4 barrel cast iron
threw on 1405 carb, but I am having trouble lining up throttle(a bit angled), kickdown, and the fast idle cam does not move at all when I manually open throttle.
I attatched throttle and kickdown and the gas pedal would get stuck open/ closed. :eek2:

    Need help Please

also have part # 8011 ford extender but have no idea what to do with it. :puzzled:

My opinion is that carb won't perform very well on your engine. Try something else.

Thanks but would at least like to get it running to find out. Sitting 20 years. I've only started it not driven it

Why not? I also did Edelbrock, because it has the proper linakge for th2004r....
please explain why you think this not good or what needs to be done to make it run right...

OK, try taking the switch pitch off and the throttle off first, then just operate the throttle on the carb to see the range of motion it needs.
Then move the linkage back and forth to see where the limits of travel are.
adjust linkage so they match up.
You may need to shorten the length of the linkage rod, add more threads. you may need to bend an offset in the linkage to get it lined up side to side.

Get that working then check the range of motion you need for the switch pitch to operate.
It is shorter than the arc of the throttle motion range,
so the point where it attaches to the throttle arm is closer to the throttle shaft.
By trial and error you will have to bend the throttle arm (ford part) to match the arc it needs to move.
Also the mount pin for the switch on the throttle arm has to be parallel to the throttle pin, the way it is now will cause binding.
look at the 2 bbl for

You have to put the Throttle Linkage up where the Large opening on the Carb linkage is. This will give you more range of motion. You'll need a washer/spacer to put a throttle nut in it. That is what I did to mine and it worked great. As far as the TV Cable connection, the One on the carb wont work. When the throttle is opening it'll pull the cable out, but at full throttle it'll start pulling up instead of out. It needs to be slanted to about the 4:30 position. This means you have to grind the arm off, file some new corners on it and have it welded in place. That's what I had to do anyway. Cheer up, Things could be worse. The Trans arm has to move 78* for it to work right. 1.1" long is the right length of the arm.

unless you spent the time to change jets and rod, and tune carb(not just mixture screws) its performance is poor. its basicly tuned to be universal. it will work on any engine to get by. not to enhanced performance. highway cruise leans out to the point of possible engine damage.

I agree Andy. You have to constantly check the plugs to see what you have going on. I'm in the process of installing dual 600s on my 401. Headaches will soon follow. I gotta be nuts. But it will look too cool when I'm done.

The 1405 Edelbrock is set up pretty rich out of the box; the 1406 is the one that's typically lean. If you run one on a mild engine, the best thing to do is swap in a set of pink or plain (7" or 8") step up springs. I'd be shocked if the jetting on your 1405 wasn't OK out of the box. I've found that the idle circuit tends to be lean on them. I dimpled and redrilled the idle air bleeds on my 1406 to richen up the transition circuit a bit (ended up reducing their size by .006 or so). As is typically the case, a wideband can help enormously.

I took mine off and went back to qjet. Going to get it to mark.

I understand that. I bought my Skylark with a 1406 on it, and the original Carter in the trunk. I went back to the Carter 10 years ago and it's great.

    Ok thanks for responding!
Just got off work, going to play with the linkage right now.
Anyone have a picture of there set up just so I can have something to go off of?

Is the Fast Idle Cam (rod connector top right side) supposed to move while opening throttle?

The Dog Dick (Passing Gear) has to move back when the throttle is opened. Just the opposite of what you have. Put the throttle in the large opening and the dog dick where you have the throttle set now. That way they will be going in the same direction. Adjust the passing gear so it will bottom out at full throttle. PITA, but it has to be done if you want a passing gear.

Ok thank you for catching that!
Just mocked it up how you explained and seems like its just perfect where the kickdown fully closes right at max throttle.
Going to get the extender welded on
    then:
    battery
    +
    various hose sizes
    =
    vroom vroom:3gears:
