I don't think anyone mentioned that unique cowl ram air..
They came out I think for the 68 GS's which had the closed air cleaner and the cowl scoop. Not sure if it was only a dealer over the counter deal but that plastic piece was being sold. Could be the 68 Chevelle SS used them too.
I'm sure it works better than the regular factory 70-72 ram air which the air passed over those inlets as they weren't located on a favorable place on the hoods. They do look good though..

just ordered the two front wheels today (what else are you supposed to do with birthday/Christmas cash?). Strangely enough, I likely have a few hours tomorrow to work on the car. Possibly a full day but we’ll see how it goes.

This turned out quick. That’s nice.

cross threading a captured nut is not ideal I guess?

A few things have happened since I last posted.
    1) I received my 15x8 front Vision wheels. Need to figure out if I want BFG Radial T/A 235 60 15 or ….

    2) this gal is ready for first primer. My garage is a disaster but I’ll get it cleaned up. Peeling two complete coats of paint off makes a good sized mess. White sanding dust, primer sanding dust, burgundy sanding dust along with a light red colored primer is every where.

I need to scrounge up my masking machine and buy some paper and masking tape. I conveniently ran out of 80 grit DA paper while sanding the decklid. Perfect timing as I am done stripping paint off. We’ll start putting material on the car now.

The underside of the decklid was super flaky white over my code 63 copper. I used a pressure washer with limited success.

When I’d had enough of the Jan weather (unseasonably mild—42 degrees today) and being wet

I’m still leaning to the “dusk blue” which is “diplomat blue” on a Buick. Not sure I’m the biggest fan of the code 63 copper. Any pics of a code 63 car? My car looks more gold than copper but I have sanded it a wee bit. 1CB26D5A-DFB8-4C93-9192-1CA2388FEDB3.jpeg

With how out of practice I am, I bet I have at least two more primer coats to go? Feels good to put stuff on and then clean it up.

Time to call it a day. My arms are about to fall off. Decklid, quarter, driver's side roof, driver's door, driver's fender and hood are all blocked to the beltline. 16447246060628871664322717626423.jpg

Not sure when I'll get back to this beast for a few weeks.

I spent hundreds of hours sanding and re priming my car before paint but it was worth it. Looking really good! For the tires go with 295/50R 15 in rear. Up front 235/60R15. That’s what I run on my 75, Also on 15x8

This needs an update,. I'm ready for final primer (hopefully tomorrow?). Bought paint and clear, teal mist gray. (Forgot to get sealer :~ ) Have secured a paint booth rental. Hope to have color on it by mid month, glass and bumpers on it soon there after. Hope to make the Cache Valley Cruise In as put together as I can make it. That's in early July. I think I'll still have trash tires on it then unless I get lucky on Craigslist or similar with some newer tires.

Bought the bulk of my weather strip from Todd. He's pretty easy to work with. Just need some window fuzzies.

I was about out of gas. Decided to put rear bumper and lights on it and go buy some gas. That was fun and distracting. This thing's no joke at all on the street. Spin the tires whenever leaned on up to 40 mph.

The exhaust was kind of falling off. While the bumper was on, I took that to get worked on. Muffler shop had it for a full Saturday so that cramped that weekend up for task completion

I LOVE sanding with 320! SO smooth. Pass quarter just needs edging and cleanup around the wheel lip. Roof is being a bit of a beetch but it's about 70% done. Using a long block or round long block with 320 on it. I'll follow that up with some 600 dry to knock the scratches down.

Can't wait to seal and lay base then clear down!

What's a good sealer these days?

I agree. Don't want to know. Still cheaper than golf.

I'm one of those folks that's cursed with enjoying golf. (among other stupid hobbies)

Trying a new technique. In the past, I've always hit final primer with 320 DA to knock about 1/3-1/2 the fresh primer off and then finished with 400 wet. My buddy that's back in the painting business now dry sands EVERYTHING. He does the 320 dry, then follows that up with dry 600 to smooth out the 320. So far, I really like his technique. 320 dust is a TOTAL mess, so I'm doing the 320 block out of the garage on the driveway. (kind of handy as I'm in the shade in the evening as our house faces east)

Wear a 1/2 face mask made with silicone and a P-100 filter. The fine dust is terrible for your lungs. Paper masks may catch 50% of the dust.

Jambs done. Clear glosses. This doesn't seem like teal mist gray but it's a nice color. Good thing this is a complete/color change 20220625_125705.jpg 20220625_123023.jpg

God laughs when you try to golf. I believe we don't have the developed mind power to keep so much in line consistently. Some do but ultimately they fail.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

That is funny, because I am exactly the same. I used to tell my roommates in Boston, when they wanted me to golf, "Because I need ANOTHER hobby to obsess about? No thanks."
