Hey Steve, I took a few minutes to look back at all the threads on your build since the beginning. To me I saw too many issues overlooked and or just plain missed by the builder. Please don't be offended at my recommendation.....I would think seriously about contacting "Scotty's Racing Engines". He is not far from you, Spring Hill Fl, that's 137.81 miles from Live Oak Fl and 2 hours 39 minutes away. I feel it would be a blessing to be that close to one of the most well known long time Buick builders ever. Just my opinion....of course. You have one of the most upbeat outlooks of anyone.....I admire that.

I'm also going to say I don't think you need a belt driven pump.

The bypass in these covers dump high pressure oil back to the suction side of the pump. If the large nut or the adjuster comes loose it will suck air into the oil system and not leak much oil until it comes completely out. The path of least resistance wins. Air is easier to move than oil. Honestly, I'm not sure why the bypass caps loosen up other than they weren't tight. Here at TA we torque them to 30lbs and put a marker line so we know we torqued it and it can be seen if it moves by the customer. I do have one idea. Years back when I first started making these adjustable regulators we supplied a GM rolled steel factory GASKET-25515852 GM. It is a unique gasket, bead rolled steel. Now I'm thinking Buick may have had an issue them self's. With that being said I would not panic, we have sold thousands of these and reports to us that this has happened is in a handful or so. Odds are extremely low. I suggest that you make sure that cap is tight when you get your engine no matter who put it together.

Good info Mike. Being as the system(wet sump) is bought and paid for and sitting in a box in my shop I'll probably install it when Crower gets my rods done. It wont be in time for the nationals this time but theres always next year.

Being as its wet sump the pan is my accumulator. I did get the Pre oiler to put in line with the system. A push of a button and I got instant OP. No dry starts.

I haven't seen a wet sump oil pan ever used as an accumulator. My take is an accumulator is a pressure storage reservoir that is in place to respond quickly to a temporary oil demand.

Well id guess the oil pan is the only place the oil accumulates. In a dry sump there is a tank that stores the oil thats sucked / scavaged out of the pan.In a heat pump A/C system there is a small storage tank to hold extra liquid freon due to the system needing more refergerent in one mode than the other. Just my thoughts on this.

While a wet sump oil pan technically does "accumulate oil" and hold it for suction, it is not under pressure as a true oil accumulator system is. This Video should help everyone understand what an "Oil Accumulator" is and how they work. There are multiple brands with variations in features available....MasterLube, Canton/Accusump, Moroso, etc.
