Dipsticks and tubes for 70-72

Since we finally got to the bottom of finishes on dipsticks and tubes, I thought I'd start a thread about correct part numbers and tubes.

In looking at a few of the 71s in concours, I noticed they had different tubes. One had a blue plastic plug in the dipstick handle, while others had the red.

In looking at the 73 printing of my parts book, from what I can tell, it lists 70-71 ALL 455s take "rod" 1234636. Which should have the little red plastic plug.

Whats interesting is it lists 72-73 ALL 350-455 engines take "rod" 1240523 which is the dipstick with the little blue plug.

Another thing I noticed is it lists an "adapter" which im assuming is the tube for a 71 stage 1 only- pt # 1234633. Why wouldn't that be the same for 70? And why is it specifically for a 71 stage 1 and not all 455s?

    Discuss....lol

It's in my GSX thread. We determined the tube was a dark phosphate and the correct dipstick finish is Krylon stainless steel appliance paint

Here's GSX 571 which is another survivor (notice the black painted master)

And how I refinished mine. I wouldn't of touched it but someone had painted it red

Interesting on the M/C. I just got the correct "EA" for my '70 Stage 1 & Kleiner rebuilt it (or had it done) & it's black & was thinking I was going to have to remove that to be correct.
