I thought that all the California GS's were 350 cars. This one is at Barrett Jackson, a convertible too: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=182689 If you look at the shot of the rear, it has the California emblem on it.
gs? steve, from what ive read, they are all 350 cars.specials with the gs badge & hood.might be a real gs that a dealer badged as cali o No: where in bellevue are you?i used to work there at r&l repair, next to autologic.r&l closed the doors last year ou:
I'm very close to there. Follow Bel Red to 140th Ave NE (where the Safeway is) and take a right. Take a left onto NE14th, and go back into that neighborhood.
The California GS came with a 4 barrell 350 engine except for 67 when it was a 340 4 barrell. no such beast as a california GS400 in any year as far as i know. no GS came with a 2 barrell carb except for the GS trim optioned 67 specials discussed on the board recently.
http://www.hu.mtu.edu/~ddcronkh/1967_gscal.html as far as i know ( ianae on California GS's ), every 'California GS' was based on the current year 2 dr POST base V6 (either Special or Skylark) and was never available in vert. the base V6 car model should be reflected in the VIN (first 3 digits should be '443' or '433' depending on year, the odd third digit denoting a 6cyl car, even tho the Cali GS is an 8) ... which i'm not seeing posted by BJ. wouldn't be anything to stop a Cali dealer from drilling a couple of holes and slapping the 'Cali' script on there but it wouldn't have been recognized as 'factory correct'.
Gee, another 1 of 1 comes up for auction. Whoever put the California emblems on the rear quarters could have at least put them in the correct location for '69! ou: Still a very nice looking GS convertible. :TU:
Ken, were the dealers required to place the Cali-specific emblems in certain locations only? And only on the "right" models? What I'm getting at, is what would prevent a dealer from deciding to mount these parts on a GS400, for instance?
My eyes might be failing BUT I can only see the cailifornia emblem on one side. Frank wow. i didn't bother to check that (cuz i don't know where they belong anyway) so much for B-J researching provenance on these things. i'm shocked it's that easy to just brazenly waltz in with such an obvious fake and have it on the block at the biggest auto auction in the world. [note to self: don't EVER by a car at BJ. it'll be overpriced and under-researched]
i guess this answers the question of whether or not there will be a crash in muscle car prices. as soon as the rich poseur fan-boys start finding out that BJ is sheering them like the sheep they are most of them are going to jump off the muscle car bandwagon... and pop, there goes your price bubble.
