Date Code? On a 1971 car, what does the trim tag code "35D" translate to? I thought they had to be from 01x to 12x, as in month and week. I have another '71 that is 02C and thought this would be Feb week 3.
Skip, can you get a picture of that? I hope your not looking at the paint code & top color side. Should be on the left, bottom side of the plate for the build date. Sounds like maybe a mistery (or mistake).o No: The "C" is 3rd week of Feb on the 2nd one.
Cleaned up the Body Sheet! Amazing what a little GOO GONE can do. Got most of the tar off, can actually read it now. I have copied all the codes into a WORD document that I will try and attach, hope it works. I will post an updated picture this weekend. Duane, I'll put your copy in the mail monday. George, if you want any more info, I can email you the actual photo. Pete
AFTER CLEANING A good scrubbing shows the number to be 05 not 35. So the build date is 4th week of May. Is this just the body or does this date code appear on the frame, engine, manifolds, trans, etc, etc? TIA, Skip
4th wk of May And it is for the BODY by Fisher only. Then the body was moved to the Buick final assembly plant where the drive train & frame was matched to the body.:bglasses: No date on the frame as far as I know, but the VIN was stamped on the drivers side toward the rear wheel, and on top the frame.
Pete, Thanks for the list of codes, and for the paper copy you are sending. It really helped. Between your and other info I have I can probably figure out all the other 67 codes and get a good idea of the 66 codes. Pete, I have 2 questions, when was your convertible built, and at what production plant? Skip, The frames have the date and part # stamped on the outside left frame rail directly in front of the rear bumper bracket. The other components, such as body panels, engine, glass, etc should all be close to that date. Duane
Updated body sheet picture. Here is the updated photo with most of the tar removed. Duane, My 67 has a very low serial (101343), but I don't know the date yet. I will have to go clean it off and take a look. I'm pretty sure it was built in Flint.
Were all those options available on 1967 A bodies? Power antenna, door locks and Auto Climate control? Or is it that the same sheet was used for all Buicks? Most of these codes are the same as the Riviera codes but some Riviera codes are not explained on this sheet. I do not see group 5 codes explained on the sheet. Are they used on Skylarks? For example, on Rivieras, the 5 K code means that door edge guards were installed from the factory.
Guys, The info in this thread has been awesome! I have been able to decode everything in the VIN for the 67 GS 400 I bought except for one thing, the trim code. Can someone help me with that? It is TR 184A. I am thinking it is Parchment, and hoping it isn't Dove White. Here is the entire tag info in case anyone cares: 05D 67-44617FL1 251662 TR 184A Paint T-2 E2EZR 4F If I am reading this right, that means it came with tinted glass, A/C, Rear Speaker, and 3 speed Auto (all of which it did come with), and is Ivory with a black vinyl top. Thanks, Chris P.S., My buddy has a Freemont (BF) and his has "7636" and "0411" at the bottom as option codes. Anyone know what these are? It is a low option, early model? (12A build date, Build # 00648) 4 speed car. Color code RR.
Chris, Trim code # 184 is an all vinyl Dove White front bench, with no armrest, interior. (Parchment wasn't available with GS interiors in 67.) Personally, I think the dove white is a much nicer color then the parchment. I had a Lt. turquoise metallic 66 GS with dove white front buckets and I thought it was a beautiful color combination. Duane
Thanks for the info Duane! I like the Dove as well, however I heard it was very hard to find. The car has been converted to buckets and a console, and it has the right 67 buckets, but they are black. Also the rear seat has a slight tear in it, so it needs the seats recovered. None of the suppliers list the Dove as being available, that is why I was hoping for the parchment. There is a guy in Vancouver, WA that can do the seats in Dove, so I may have to contact him if I end up keeping the car. Do you know of anyone else doing seat covers in Dove? Thanks, Chris
Chris, I am not up on current events regarding upholstery. I used to make these seats all the time, before I sold off the upholstery part of my business. (Classic Car Interiors) I would call Poston, I think he buys upholstery kits from the company that bought me out. They sell strictly to their venders, so you can't buy direct, I don't even have their phone #'s anymore. Another thing, some venders may be listing the Dove white, actually an off white color, as parchment. I think you should be able to find that color available. Call Legendary and get a sample. Duane
Called Poston's today and they are going to send me a sample of Dove White in the mail!' Thanks again Duane, Chris
