DansGS isn't willing to help

    FYI.
I asked for help finding tailliights and a bumper for my 78 Riviera. DansGS said he had both. $150 for the bumper and $50 each on the taillights. I negotiated a $250 delivered deal with him and received the parts. Problem is that the taillights are 1977, not 78. Sure they bolt on, but that is not what I was expecting and I cannot use them. DansGS says he sent me a picture, but this did not happen. All communication was via PM on this forum and I took his word for the quality of the parts. When contacting him, DansGS says he only charged me $15 for both taillights and I may be able to sell them for more so I guess the negotiated discount was conveniently taken on only the taillights.

Bottom line, he was only in it for a one time sale as he never tried to work anything out.

First time I have been stiffed on this forum and I will not forget it unless he changes his approach and trys to work something out. So far, he sucks.

I sent clear pictures of the '77 tail lights and bumper I had available. He ended up paying $25 for the pair of tail lights, then tried to get a $90 refund from paypal, that aint happenin'

I refunded the money for mouldings as soon as I recieved them back. I do not see any problems with the mouldings that where returned. The quality of all the parts I have to offer are supreme. Just ask the other board members who have recieved parts from me.

I have a reputation here so I am not stretching the truth. I never got a photo. I only dealt through this forum's PM messages and you cannot receive a photo through here. Use your head, if I saw them, I would have known they were 77's in the picture and this would not have happened.

You said $50 each at the time of sale but when I contacted you back with a problem, you said $15 is what you sold them to me for. Now you say $25? I have all the PM's so we know who is not telling the truth here. Again I guess you took the entire discount off only the taillights? How convenient for me.

I asked for $90 back cause this was not MY error and it would cost $20 to send back. The nets out at $75 for the pair. That was my concession since I knew you discounted both the bumper and the taillights. All I was looking for was you to work with me but when you said I shoudl resell them and that you only charged $15, I knew who I was dealing with.

But, guys like you who mislead will probably just change your login and start over anyway.

Now that you have finally responded (with false info), you have made it clear you are not in this for the long haul and don't really care about your reputation here. You clearly do not know what it is like to be the buyer.

You have the luxury of not being local. You can just hide.

I just forwarded the original email I sent you with the attached pictures, maybe you didn't get it?? Maybe it goes into your spam folder?? I'm not going to refund you $90 for tail lights you paid far less for, what would you like me to do?? Get over this and move on, be happy with the super sweet bumper you got for dirt cheap and the wrong tail lights you got for next to nothing.

Again, how you are handling this is very telling to the next buyer. I did receive the email with pictures THIS MORNING. First time I have seen it. I check my spam and junk email every day to be certain no other emails get missed.

All I was ever looking for is a seller who is TRYING to work something out. You telling me you sold me the taillights for $15 after originally quoting $100 and THEN saying I should basically resell them myself is not evidence of a seller trying to help.

If you have an email saying I saw the pictures and they look great send that!!! We both know that email does not exist because I did not see the pictures.

The bumper is OK. It is not SUPER SWEET. It has scratches on the bottom and rust from those scratches. It also has a slight bulge in the middle but not terribly noticable. THAT IS NOT SUPER SWEET.

If you want to be a successful businessman, you will realize that making sure your customers are happy after the fact is important. Referral business is how to build a strong business.

You discounted the original $250+shipping to $275 including shipping and then said that the entire discount was taken off the items I have problems with. That is just not good business. I asked for $90 cause I would have to send them back and that would cost ME $20 to ship. Since I never saw the pictures ahead of time, I did not know what I was getting and relied entirely on your descriptions in the PM's sent here. SUPER SWEET??? Dude, that should mean almost flawless and this is just a pretty straight old part with just OK chrome. It will work on my car, but SUPER SWEET??? C'Mon!

Asking your customers to "MOVE ON" is not the way future buyers will want to be treated. I am an honest guy. If I made a mistake, I would own up to it.

As you can see from the forwarded email, I originally sent you the pictures on 6-16. Look like maybe you missed it?? That's not my mistake.

Just to be clear, you paid $150 for the bumper and tail lights, right??? And you want to return the tail lights for $90??

Dave, you say you paid $275 for the bumper and tail lights including shipping.

Dan says you paid 150 for both... so that means there was $125 shipping?
If that's the case, is a $90 refund for the lights reasonable? I don't know how much it was to ship a bumper and lights, but you have to factor that off the price of the items before you can deduce how much you paid for each item. But Dan would have to confirm that shipping amount. Got a receipt?

Dave you said you didn't get an email with pictures, but Dan forwarded you one he said he sent before you paid. In the forwarded email, you should be able to see the original details of the first email like - who it was sent to and when etc. What does that information say? Maybe you did miss it? That info is hard to fake. Maybe that information is not in this forwarded email, in which case Id be suspicious.

This just seems like an unfortunate situation. But without all the facts we cant really make an opinion.

email I sent was titled: Riviera parts-pics and had the following message:

Hi! Attached are a few pictures of the parts I have available. I am in Washington State, shipping via Greyhound shouldn't be too bad. Let me know what you think?? Thanks for your interest!

Shipping cost via Greyhound was $118.70

Well, now the communication has restarted. When I tried to work this out before, I was pretty much left on my own.

If Dan sent the email, I did not receive it. I never responded with anything like "pics look great". In fact, In my PM's exchanged on this board, I said I did not hear from him via email but that he SAID the parts were really nice. I took his word for it and told him to ship. All communication was on this board. The first I EVER heard of pictures was after the fact when I had this problem. If there was ever a mention of pictures, I would have stopped and made certain I got them. I didn't know what I didn't know.

As far as shipping, until now I have not known what it cost. I do not know what Greyhound charges but Dan now said it was $120 to ship. Only Dan knows for sure as I was not involved. Seems high, but I have never tried Greyhound from Washington to SoCal. Bumpers are big I know.

So, If I paid $275 and it in fact DID cost that much to ship, clearly the parts would net out to $155. Maybe $100 or so for the bumper and $50 for the lights? I truly don't know.

Why did it have to come to this to begin some sort of conversation to work things out? After I received the parts and had a problem, I was told he sold the lights for $15 and that I should resell them. Then it changed to $25.

This is probably a case of assumptions, but the real point is the ZERO EFFORT to do ANYTHING to work it out. Now that everybody watching this knows about it and it could affect future sales, I guess it became important to save his reputation. Still pretty sad I think.

$50 lights and probably $20 for me to ship back? Yeah, I guess I can toss them on the campfire.

You make up your own mind on this one. You can see I am the guy out the money for crap I cannot use.

TODD'S 67 Time for another Buick!

I don't know who is right on this one, but I do know that I got some really nice Buick tri-shield emblems from DansGS at a decent price. No problems, so guys, let's try to work this out somehow. There's got to be a fair resolution here!

    It's pretty easy to tell.

One of us is making a point to show how he was right and the other guy is trying to tell the whole truthful story with all the facts.

One of us has the money and the other no longer does.

Not taking sides at all, but there are few people that I would pay for parts from if I hadn't seen pictures.

That's the best way to try and avoid some of the problems that come up.

I totally agree. I have had such good dealings with fellow car guys that I became too trustworthy and sloppy. Had I saw the pictures, none of this would have happened. Descriptions like "super sweet" were taken at face value. I wish you guys could see my "super sweet" bumper.

There is still a very important point here about how this seller handles issues. I was being left out on my own until I posted something on this board that could affect his future business. That is when all of a sudden the communication re-started.

Here is a copy of the PM I recieved when your parts arrived...

    "Dan,
Thanks for shipping the parts. I received them today. The bumper looks pretty good. We do have a problem with the taillights though. These are off a 1977 model and not a 78. They have the same bolt pattern but the 78's are all chrome whereas the ones you sent have a body painted area about 1 1/2 inches all around. Different deal.

Here is a link to the ROA which mentions the change from 77 to 78.

    http://rivowners.org/features/evolution/evpt78.html

    How do we handle this?
    Thanks
    Dave"

.... no mention of the bumper having any problems then?? What happened to your original parts requests posting?? Did you delete it???
