70 GS 455 with power drum brakes. What is the Correct Master Cylinder? Als0 where can you get one? My car has the oval type MC with a bale and a dual round pointed top Delco cap. It also has bleeders.

Inline Tube. Check there catalog, I found this has more information to brows through.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

If you are looking for correct as in concourse correct, it sounds like you have the right one now?

There are numbers cast into these that can make a more definite statement about which master that is.

If you just want something that works, the auto parts store has one, that looks wrong, but fits and functions ok. I bought a new one of these at O'Reilly's for about $40 (made in china). Works perfectly, but doesn't look original to the trained eye.

Yes I want to get the right one (all numbers matching car) or if mine is likely original I guess best to rebuild it. It is leaking. Don’t want to damage my brake booster.

The one that Inline Tube sells does not have bleeders like original. You will have to find an original and have it rebuilt. (unless you don't care about that particular detail)...otherwise the repro looks correct.

Daves69 Too many cars too work on

70 GS with power drums will have a master cylinder that looks like this.

There is not a reproduction available with bleeder screws.

Yes that is the one I have. Number on bottom is 5460485. Is that a 1” bore? Haven’t torn down yet.

Next question…what is the correct rebuild kit and where to buy it?

I thought Steve Caruso sells the correct master with bleeders?

    James,

    Welcome to the board.

If you don't wanna deal with the hassle of tracking down a rebuild kit or rebuilding your master cylinder, I suggest using White Post Restorations in VA.

They did mine late last year and it came out great. You're looking at about $250 ish but also get a lifetime guarantee. Food for thought...

    Here's mine:

That's a manual brake master, correct? (no bleeders)

You're welcome. I'd have to agree.

What's the build date on your GS?

Also, yours should have a 2 letter stamp on the front pad.

Two sets of numbers. One is cast toward front under side is 132. The other set (more like a stamped number) toward the back is either 5012 or 6012. The 012 is much clearer. My car was built June 19, 1970.
