convertible top frame repair

  1. has anyone disconnected the power mechanism from a convertible top frame? it will be a while till i can afford to replace the top frame. one of the arms bent on the frame while lowering the top once and since then the top is goes off alignment and also the the side window goes off alignment. temporarily i would like to lower the top manually so the arm doesn't bend more and further mess up the alignment. this is on a 69 skylark. thanks for looking.

I disconnected the hydraulic cylinder from mine on each side when I was changing the top. I could lift the top up and down manually but it was pretty heavy getting it to come back up because you don't have good leverage to pull up evenly in the middle.

Make sure the hydraulic cylinder is retracted otherwise it will get in the way when you manually lower your top.

  3. thanks-do you think that I can operate the top temporarily like that with out tweeking or damaging anything?
