Hello all, been a while since I posted..
My car is finally painted and time to install the windshield and new convertible vinyl header fabric cover.. Does any one have a link to how to do this properly? Does this need installed prior to putting on the winshield trim on etc.
Any info would be greatly appreciated..

    thanks,

    Dan C.

I've always just used a piece of matching vinyl and glued it on with 3M trim adhesive. You won't be able to bend/form the vinyl so get a piece that about 12" or so wide and lay it flat on top, rough fit it, spray both sides with adhesive and glue it on, then trim it. Yes, it does have to be done before the windshield trim goes on.

The vinyl piece was originally madrid grain, which was the common grain used by GM from 65-72. That piece was most commonly installed in black, although there were some that were color keyed to the interior colors.

If you still have the old one, lay it flat and trace it out onto the new piece on the back. Put it on dry and do all your trimming first before you apply any adhesive. Once you are happy with the fit, make a few reference marks on the car and on the vinyl, that way once you apply the adhesive just line up your marks and you won't have to move it around. Good Luck !
