Console ideas for Tremec 5 speed needed please post pictures.

With the Tremec mounting in the middle of the tunnel hump. I am thinking there might be other consoles that can be swapped in and fabbed a bit to work. I had seen someone who cut the auto selector piece out of an auto condole then made a custom piece to cover the gaps. Any ideas and pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I did this to my 70 GS 350 (no longer have ) The car was an auto and installed a TKO 600. I removed the center piece and then enlarged the opening. It could still be returned to an auto console and be complete. I never finished it, but just heat and bend a piece of plastic. I was still experimenting with shift boots and did plan on installing a piece of brushed stainless steel instead of the plastic..... I now have a 65' GS 4 speed which I am thinking of swaping in a 5 speed ??? Good luck ! Jim

 

Thanks, I wonder if it was your car I saw a picture of. I saw this same mod on a GS 350 for sale on craigslist in NH a few months back. I have a decent console I could use. Thinking of doing an engine turned metal to cover the gap. I was wondering about about shift boots. Looks sharp. Thanks for the picture!

 

That is my car ! (was my car ) I think its still for sale. Sean w/ Paintworks Unlimited has it. He is agreat guy and very talented, especially with Buicks. Send me a pic when your done with your console. I think my best fitting boot was a small one from hurst and I secured to the floor and had it poke thru the opening of the plastic I made.

Looks like it was a great car. The tremec really transforms the whole experience. Just picked up this car last week. I have some tweaking to do to get it ready for some car shows and maybe a quick trip down the local 1/8th mile track. Been awhile since I drove a stick with any V8 power behind it, 80's I am pretty sure. Going to be fun. I have 2 consoles to use for parts, That is a great idea, getting a smaller boot will help. I have talked to Sean before, I would love for him to do the work for this car but I am not pulling this one apart for the foreseeable future. Really need to enjoy the brief Maine summer while it lasts. I will post some pictures when I get the console in. Thanks!

you can get the 2" offset shifter and use stock 4-speed console too.

 

Anybody do a 4speed to a 5 speed swap ? I am looking at Richmond and Tremec.... Both seam a little big for the 65' tunnel.... Don't mind drive shaft and cross member changes but hate to cut my tunnel/floor because it's too nice !.....

Working out some kinks today. Trying to get the Holley 950 HP Ultra to have better street manners, that is one rich beast out of the box. While still cold blooded it s running better today. I finally had it out on a road I could shift into 5th gear. Over drive can really transform a car. Loving the TKO 600 and having a stick again, the fact that it doesn't restart hot makes everything even more exciting when you go for a ride. Need to work on some better grounding and get some thicker cables to the battery for a start.

i converted from auto with console to 5 speed kiesler RS600, i like the bucket seat no console look, or bench seat no console, i never liked the look of the Buick 4 speed consoles. Just my 2 cents
