Looks like I'm going to have to take the trans out. What's involved? Can I do it myself? Never done a clutch before.

Its not hard, remove Shiftier handle only, drive shaft, unbolt cross member slide cross member back, remove the 4 3/4 bolts holding the trans to the bell housing remove 6 9/16 bell bolts remove bell housing remove 6 pressure plate bolts and the clutch will fall out...

I've readjusted the clutch and found the best way was to do like the assembly manual said which is different than the way the chassis manual says. It said to put the pedal where it has zero lash and is against it's stop. Then adjust the rod to where the pin will slide in through the fork and rod without having to pull on anything to get the pin to slide in. Then back it off 2 turns and that will give it about 7/8" lash at the pedal. To me it feels just about perfect now. The clutch seems to function really well, it just sounds like I have a whinny torque converter clutch is the only way I can think to describe it, but the problem is there is no TCC since it's a manual. I'm going to see if I can't get a video of it and post it and see if anyone here thinks it's something I need to tear in to or if it's a normal sound typical of these cars and transmissions. I know someone posted earlier that a whine can be a characteristic of these setups, and with it functioning the way it is I hate to go to such trouble to replace something if it's going to do the same thing when done.

I can't hear anything that is way out of the ordinary. I would drive it. if you are feeling froggy and want to take a leap dump the fluid and inspect it..

I'll try to get a better sound clip.

I plan to dig into this more this week. First I want to check the fluid. If I have to remove the trans I'll most likely drain first anyway so it will be lighter to bench press. I see a plug on the lower right side of the trans. I'm assuming this is the drain plug. If I drain it, where do I fill it back up or check the fluid level? How much gear oil should it take from empty? This is an M22.

I'm getting a squeal as the clutch pedal is released with the trans in gear. This is a new sound. Any ideas?

Worn throw out bearing? Input shaft bearing? Pilot bearing?

  11. If the noise happens when you're releasing the clutch, I'd lean towards the TO bearing.
