Is the clutch fork for a small block car interchangable with the big block model?

To clarify what Jim said, the small bock fork is different from the big block fork where it attaches to the adjuster rod. You can use a small block fork and adjuster, it just wont be correct cosmetically.

Thank you for replying......My car is all custom anyway, and I could care less about originality, I just want to be able to drive. The drawing I have from the Chassis manual shows part number 9787069 for the small block, but it will work for a big block then? Does it use a different adjuster?

Yes, thats correct. Here's a link to a repro. Same fork as a 442.

If you want to see the big block fork compared side to side with the small block one, I can dig them out and take a picture for you.

The bellhousing (9785581) fits both a SBB or a BBB, it doesnt know what engine its getting bolted to. And neither does the fork. A regular clutch adjusting rod will work.

Thank you everyone for the info and the photos. I ordered the SBB fork and I will see how it goes. I have a Lakewood blow proof bell housing but that shouldn't matter. I will try and get some pics up if or when I get it in.

    Hi, i
saw your post and have been looking for a 455 fork for some time w/o any luck. Did you order from 4spd conversion? I want on their site and it said out of stock. I will do the same until I can find an original. Thanks,

I looked all over the net and could not find one for a big block, so I got one for a small block off ebay for $59....we will see if it works. If it does I can post a link where I got it.

Stacy (dentboy) converted his 350 4 speed over to a big block and used his original small block fork.

as far as a return spring, I think I have a repro one in there from a GTO or a 442.

This is the fork I ordered....

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/19101528574...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1197wt_610

It arrived today, and there are minor differences, but it basically looks just like the one that came out of the car that is for a chevelle...

Can somone post a pic of a clutch fork that we KNOW is correct, and maybe some measurements?

Also I used the thicker throw out bearing ( N1466 ) instead of the thinner one. I had the thinner one in there and it wasnt thick enough to depress the fingers on the pressure plate. It would hit the back of the bell housing opening before it would be enough. I have seen several posts where others had the same issue and noted the thicker bearing was the issue. Can anyone weigh in on this?

Here is the BB fork. They all are esentially the same except for the type of attachment at the adjusting rod

This is the chevelle fork that was in my car that won't line up with the thicker TO bearing, and the new one is the SBB fork I just got off ebay. As I look closer the angles are different. I hope it works.

Im pretty sure a BB takes the shorter TO bearing. Thats an odd fork you have there. Looks like someone tried modifiying it to resemble a bb fork

Well I have both bearings, so I will see what fits. Maybe it was the fork that was the problem. Can anyone else weigh in on what bearing is correct?

BBB uses the thicker throw out bearing because of the pressure plate fingers are shorter.
SBB uses the thinner throw out bearing because of the pressure plate fingers are longer.

When I went with a BBB in my original SBB 4 speed car I compared the two pressure plates.

Small block and big block z bars are different. Been there done that. I think I got mine from year one its a exact duplicate to a original big block z bar.

You may need to use a Lakewood adjustable pivot in order for the throw out bearing to work.

If Jason says someone made a small block fork work, you can rely on that. But the forks are not the same.

Jason-- I now longer have a BB fork out of a car. Is there a part number on the BB fork? if so, what is it?
