I was sharing some info on the Buick "Chevrolet style" rally wheels to a fellow Buick enthusiast recently. He has a 67 Special that he already has new tires and Chevy rally wheels on. He was saying he wanted to find some more suitable wheels and I mentioned Buick used those wheels in 67' and 68' for disk brake cars. He could just track down some Buick centre caps. He did not have caps and rings yet anyway. He was not aware of them at all. While sharing some pictures on what they looked like I noticed that he could probably make a set of his own out of reproduction pieces if he couldn't find a nice set. I noticed that you could buy reproduction disk brake chevy caps for quite reasonable. Then you could just find a used or reproduction set of Buick centre caps and screw them onto the chevy disk brake caps. Has anyone else noticed this or tried to make some? Just some thoughts I figured I would share. Greg
Yes. For the polished Chevy ones, you can scuff them to give them the "dull" finish. The 4 holes for the center cap match with the 4 holes on the Chevy one. One would have to file down the tang "attachment prongs" on the Buick cap, then drill holes for screws.
Yea. It seems like it would be easy to do. Just drill out the rivets holding the attachment clips and then drill and tap the holes for some #8 or #10 machine screws and then attach. Add a fresh set of trim rings and you have a nice set of "Disk Brake wheels". After doing some research I noticed Pontiac also had the same caps on disk brake wheels but also used Pontiac centres like the ones from a Rally 1 wheel. Greg
I have never seen a Pontiac version, any photos? The Buick style for this wheel also used a brushed finished trim ring that was different than those used on other rallye wheels. I have a set that I put on my GS to see what they would look like.
Got a set, but the metal has dinks in it. Also have a nice set of the chevy style ones that someone put late model Buick caps on. Window is closing as I am heading south on the 1st.
There are a set of Pontiac ones on Ebay. They look to be just like the Buick but a Pontiac logo centre. The guy I know of interested is just a online acquaintance but I will let him know there are some sets around on V8 Buick if he decided to go that route. Greg
I dont think those are factory caps and if they are they are very rare. I am not a Pontiac expert but in all my years I have never seen a set on a car. They look like Buick caps that someone put a pontiac logo into.
There are many possible ways to go about center caps for rally wheels. This was a set I bought from a member here who lived in Cincinnati OH many years ago. I detailed and polished them and used them on a 67 Sport Wagon. These are flat caps with chevrolet on them and I laid a 67 red bird emblem on, from Mitch. These are caps for sale on eBay that do not have Chevrolet on them, just Disc Brakes. 4 Chevy GM Disc Brake Rally Wheel Center Hub Caps Rim 5 Lug Nut Cover | eBay then put stickers on them. So there are ways, these are just a few. Good luck. BTW, These are chevy hubcaps I put those stickers on and used them for a long time.
Canadian Beamonts used Chevy style rally wheels with Pontiac centre caps for sure. Although I am not sure they looked exactly like that. Beamonts were kind of strange with their mix of parts. They were mostly a Chevelle but had Pontiac dash and interior as well as their own exterior trim. Greg
