    Hello ,
I'm new to the forum and I have a question for Burford (if he/she is still on the forum) regarding jet/ needle sizes for carter carbs,
I have been trauling the 'net trying to find these parts for my Carter AFB 3257S and found a forum article on here from 2005! from Burford who said he had a Carter book wth part numbers cross referenced to jet sizes.
My carb has 16-159 needles (the carb needs new pistons for these as well) and 120/252 primary jets and 120/226 secondary jets, can anybody help with sources for these parts?.
As I'm sure other forum members are aware there are lots of dealers selling Edelbrock carbs and spares which are supposed to be interchangeable but all the needles seem to be two-step and sold by size, which we don't know
because before 1970 (according to Burford) the numbers on Carter jets and needles was just a part number and gave no clue as to the jet/needle dimensions!.:Do No: If someone could send me a scan from a Carter data book I would be eternally gratefull!. I would dearly love to keep the original carb on my car! and being a member on another forum for cars that use these carbs I would ensure that this forum gets an honorable mention when I post the info!.:pp

    Thankyou

3257? That sounds like a Dodge carb. We don't allow no stinkin' Mopar boys on this board! :moonu: Just kidding. You must really be desperate to come to Buick guys for help  .

Buford helped me out on that 2 year old thread. It looks like he visits infrequently (no activity since June), but he may chime in. If you send him a P/M (private message) it will notify him the next time he logs on.

You might try The Carburetor Shop. Give them a call, they may have what you need. Another option is to look for junk/parts Carter 3257 carbs on Ebay. Sometimes you can get a great deal on a nasty looking carb that has OK parts on the inside, other times the seller thinks his useless trash is worth Hemi money.

    Good luck.

Thanks Wildcat , sorry for ruffling feathers, my car is indeed Mopar Powered but it's a Jensen, a 1963 CV8 with a 361 Cu .
I have been in touch with The Carburetor shop and they can provide everything I need, the drawback is that they want $140 for a pair of needles:eek2: .Apparently they make them to order.
Thought I would try here to see if anyone knew of a shop holding NOS for Carters. You're right about ebay, someone wants whole car money for a pair of Carters:confused: .

Moss: Buford here...I just noticed your post. I don't get a chance to check in here much lately. I checked what Carter catalogs I have and can help a little. The 3257S carb is the AFB listed for 1962 Plymouth/Dodge with the 361 cube high performance engine. The closest my books list is for the same engine in 1961, that use the same jets and rods. It lists the 16-159 rod as .064/.062/.058 diameters. The jets sizes are..120-226 (secondary) is .065, 120-252 (primary) is .089. Edelbrock shows the .089 jet as their EDE 1424, but the smallest I can find is .077 (EDE 1420). The closest rod from Edelbrock is a two step with .065/.057 diameters (EDE 1461). Hope this helps, Frank.

Buford, thanks very much indeed for the info, I have been fiddling with a micrometer and an old nail and some emery paper to try and measure the original parts (not very accurate as your figures illustrated). I have continued to traul the web for a supplier and got a lead from a company called Tomoco, who couldn't help with parts but gave me the name of The Daytona Parts Company in Florida who do rebuilds on Carter,Rochester,Holley etc (some impressive pics of carbs that look brand new again) I've tried to contact them via e-mail with no response as yet.
The name may be worth remembering for others on your forum though, full rebuilds look to be quite reasonable in terms of cost, if I were in the 'states I'd probably send my carb to them!.
Anyway thanks again for taking the time to reply, the info will be usefull.

    Regards

    Justin
