The thread with the buried Chevys and the pics I took where my Regal has been sitting got me thinking: Who's got pics or stories of classic iron just rotting away in some field or barn somewhere that the owner refuses to sell? I've got a ton of pics from two weeks ago, I just have to load them off my camera. But in the meantime, who's got more?

I went to school with a guy from Nebraska years back and our talk very quickly gravitated to cars. He told me of an earthen dam his uncle built out on his farm in Nebraska to manage irrigation on his farm using an old Studebaker collection. said there must have been 20-30 of them pushed into a big row across a ravine and dirt piled on top.

Apparently burying cars wasn't that uncommon years ago. We dug lots of Model T's and A's out of creekbeds, landfills, etc. in Western, Ky. back in the 60's. Friend's Dad had a drive-in theater and we started parking them on the back ramp after the fields around it were full. They'd bring them in the shop and disassemble them for the usable and restorable parts. Once people started seeing them, all kinds of leads came pouring in for nicer cars all around that area. Some were even dragged in on a chain for free passes to the shows, etc. One guy drove a 1929 Chevrolet coupe in there one day and sold it for some disgustingly cheap $$$. We even tracked down a 1937 Cord roadster in a barn in Western Tennessee for $100. What a collection.

Rumor has it that Arnie Beswick buried one of his racecars at his farm years ago as it was too wicked to drive. I think it was brought back up recently and restored.

I buried a bunch of flathead Ford parts in my Mom's garden when I left for colege many years ago and my Dad wanted his garage back. She found them a few years later and thought it was funny.

Years ago, the junkyards used to pile the cars into a pile and burn them to get rid of the upholstery, tires, fluids, etc. (Algore would have heart failure). There was a special on the History channel on scrap yards recently, and I was in tears watching it and seeing some of the stuff that went through the scrap yard processes years ago.

Okay here we go. This is just the more interesting cars out at this farm, maybe a third of what is actually out there. The first is an '88 Turbo Thunderbird that we bought as a running parts car for another project, and believe me this thing flew in the top end. Shame it ended up like this.

Next we have an old Buick Skyhawk, and behind it, the remnants of a late 2nd gen Firebird Spirit.

An old LeMans that was most likely purchased for parts for one of the sons' GTO. Behind it yet another 2nd gen Firebird.

I believe this is a '78 or '79 Trans Am. In the backround of the first pic is an early 60's Falcon, and in the second pic is a '78 Bonneville coupe with a 400.

Old Maverick drag project that never got off the ground.

    Another old LeMans shell.

This isn't a whole car, just a fender on yet another LeMans parked out there.

And finally an old Formula 350

Now we move inside for the good stuff . . .

1970 Charger 500. I don't know much about this car except that it was wrecked sometime in the 80's and has no front sheetmetal on it. It does however have a very nice all white interior- or at least it did a decade ago when I last saw the interior.

1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am WS6. As far as I know, everything for this car is there (the disc brake rear end is in the back corner), it's just been disassembled and left there for going on 20 years. The blue car to its left is a '71ish Pontiac Ventura which is pretty straight except for a nasty hit on the rear end.

And finally a 1970 Challenger. Really nothing special as far as Challengers go (not a TA or R/T), but was originally a red 340 car. This was the car that made me love cars in the first place. But at some point the engine was pulled and dropped into a D50 pickup and soon blown up. The paint was stripped off to start doing some body work, was primered, and then has been sitting here ever since.

    And that's all I've got.

Here is one that is definitely a "car IN barn" car.

Ive got three cars that came out of barns, but no pics of them actually in them. Ive got one that was in a chicken coop that I had to winch out of 2 feet of chicken dookie. Anything for a nice old car:laugh:

My 'Lark is rotting away in the driveway. I really have to graduate, get a real job, and fix it up.

It will be fun to see the condition. Could go either way but I understand several measures were taken including gunnite spraying the container closing it up.

This kind of doesn't count, since it was our car and we knew where it was the whole time (but it has been referred to as a "barn find" anyway):

Our '65 GTO. Sat pretty much as you see it here from 1974 until probably the late 90's. Dad finally let me take it over to my house and clean it up and get it running again:

    Here it is today:

I can only imagine what that container of gasoline is going to smell like after sitting for 50 years.

Ya know, that might be a fun little road trip to see them dig that up. I think I'll try to make it.
