Hey guys, I should be picking up my 67 225 Vert either today or tomorrow with the brand new 430(.060 over). My question is this, is there anything that I should do to the power top mechanism before I try to lower/raise the top? The car had been sitting for a long time, around 6-7 years, and the top had not been lowered under its own power, I had lowered/raised it manually once or twice. Thanks in Advance, and yes, I will post some picts when I get her home.
First, inspect the cylinders and hydraulic rams (the chromed part that actually moves). if the rams are rusty or dirty, the debris or rust will rip the seal on the cylinder and cause a bad leak. Get some light machine oil like 3 in 1 Oil and oil the hinges lightly, wipe off the excess. Not a bad idea to do the same to the rams even if they're clean and rust free. Tops that don't see regular service sometimes plain don't work because the fuid has dried up! Check the lines, they may be opaque. I've heard stories of blue crystals in the lines being the only remnants of the orignal fluid. if the top hangs up, or the motor seems to really be straining, stop the roof immediately and find the problem. it might be wise to have someine in the back seat watching the top, lines, rams, etc. for you as you work the switch. Good luck with the Duece and a quarter:TU:
If the material is warm it's more flexible. Seeing your in CA finding some sun shouldn't be too tough.
Thanks guys, hopefully I'll be inspecting everything and trying it out this weekend. And you're right, sun is not an issue. I live in teh desert, and it hit 100 yesterday. DOH!!!! Makes for nice evening cruising in the boat.
Check a few out here. http://www.cardomain.com/id/electra_dave I need to take some more flattering shots. That was just in the am one day at the gas station.
