Hello, I just refound  the carb that I took off the 71 455 that is going in my 66 Skylark. The number is 7041540 MF 0771. I believe that is correct and original to the motor. It's crusty but I believe rebuildable. Attached are a few pics. What would need to be done to remove the unnecessary vacuum parts. I don't know if it was emissions. The first pic looks like an electric solenoid that controlled a vacuum port. The second pic shows 2 vacuum things " lol". The rear one goes to a port at the rear of the carb. Is all this necessary. The intake currently came with a vacuum "tree" at the front left side of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, john

    I also found a Rochester 7029245 kb 0519
I believe it's for a 69 350 with a manual trans. I couldn't find a cfm rating on it from any web site. Would this possiblity work, a lot less stuff attached to it. If not, would it be worth selling and an average price. It would have to be rebuilt but looks to be in better shape than the 71.
    Thanks again

That solenoid is for the Transmission Controlled Spark emissions system. The other picture shows the secondary choke pull off. It just provides more control to the choke as the engine warms up.

Haha the ole knox converter solonoid. Thats a genuine CA emmisions device from the era. My 68 pontiac GP had one. I m sure I tossed it in the garbage

The other 2 choke pulloff and secondary dashpot are pieces you want on your carb.

Yes, you can eliminate it, but hold on to it, a concourse resto guy may want it. You can leave the choke pull offs. the front one is absolutely essential in that it controls the secondary air valves as well.
