Can anyone tell me how many 1970 GSX were sold new in Canada ? Does anyone know a source for the vin or build date of the last one sold ? Thanks
About 5-6 % of total production or 35 -40, 1970 Buick GSX's were sold new in Canada in 1970. This % is based on years of reviewing posted sold production #'s, off GM of Canada Documentation compared to total GM production of various brand GM muscle cars.
No kidding, that is great! Is it yellow or white, Stage non stage, auto of 4 speed? Canadian delivered car?
thanks - yellow, auto, Stage 1. Sold at Reid Bros. Arnprior, Ontario. I'm putting together s show board after the restoration and wanted to add something about being a Canadian car. Would be nice to have something in hand about how many were sold there.
Sting2, What rear axle does your GSX have? Is it original to your #602 chassis? The reason I ask is that there has been a lot of documentation and discussion about "Canadian GSs" being built with 12 bolt (Chev.) rear axles (from at least '68 - '70). However, I know that in some years (pre '70), there were GSs actually assembled in Canada, but I think things changed in about 1970 when tariffs were eliminated and factories on both sides were building cars for the home market and for the other country. Just curious. Rich Johns might have the answer to this question.
Ken, All 70-72 GSX's were built in Flint Michigan, regardless of where they were delivered. They will not have 12 bolt rear axles. They also did not build 70-72 Buick A-body cars in Canada. They were built in Framingham Mass, Flint, Kansas City, and Fremont Calif. Some 70 and possibly 71-72 Framingham cars were built with 12 bolt Chevy rears, but they were only available as an open highway gear, 2.56 I believe. My Canadian built 69 GS has a 12 bolt, but it was made in Canada and shipped to the US. Duane
My car has the ON 3.64 rear as per the protecto-plate. Date is almost obliterated but the ON code is there. And thanks Duane for all the help
