    So I don't have a Qjet I have a rochester.
I started out looking for the fuel filter. I see there is one hard line that screws in, is that the fuel?

Then there is a weird round thing on the right side. No idea what that is.

The two vacuum things on the back, is one the choke? And the other?

Big vacuum lines running to a can up front on the drivers side? Evap or charcoal canister?

What do these vacuum lines operate that hook to the air cleaner assembly?

Thanks for any help, I'm a total newb with carburetors. 20200226_092651.jpg 20200226_092750.jpg

Yes, fuel line. It may have a "stone" or "paper" filter in it.

The " weird round thing " is the chock control housing.
Contains a bimetallic spring that changes tension and moves the "flap" on the top of the carb by way of a small push rod the runs up from that mechanism to the top flap.

Follow the rubber hoses and see what they connect to and get pics.

One of the two on the bottom (passenger side) should go to the Vacuum Advance canister on the distributor.

Post year and model of the car.

    Thanks a ton that was helpful. It's a 76 Regal with a 350.

The round thing on the side with the three screws is the choke coil housing. It has a heat operated spring inside that controls the choke. You will have other vacuum lines to the trans, power brakes, PVC, etc. You should get a manual for the car and that will show all the vacuum line in the car.

Yes, the metal line is the fuel line. The filter is behind the big fitting that the fuel line screws into. You will need a line wrench to loosen the fuel line while you hold the big fitting with another wrench. Use a line wrench or you will twist the fuel line or round off the nut, very important!

The large round thing is the choke thermostatic coil. It operates the choke flap up top to close off the carburetor bore when the engine is cold. This richens the mixture so the engine will start when cold. The vacuum things on the back are choke unloaders. They open the choke flap against the thermostatic coil tension so the engine runs without loading up.

Those bigger hoses are NOT vacuum lines, they are EVAP lines. There should be one coming from the carburetor, one from the fuel tank, and one from the air cleaner all going to the charcoal canister. They really don't have much influence on how the engine runs, they are for gasoline vapor emissions compliance.

BTW, the Quadrajet is also a Rochester carburetor. What you have is a Rochester 2GC (2 barrel carburetor)

Hey thanks for that because I would have just tried to use a regular wrench on that damn thing. I will gladly get a line wrench. Any idea what size those two fittings are? And yeah after further examination I found it just like you said and all three lines are even labeled on top of the canister.

You’ll need a 5/8 line wrench, the fitting may be 7/8 or 1”, not sure, but you can figure that out.

Got a set of line wrenches from HF and it worked great. Got my tune up all done and she runs great. Except I seem to have a braking issue... Sounds like the left front brake is dragging and when I press the pedal it pulls hard right. So I'm digging into that tomorrow and hoping I don't have a fubar caliper...

You could also have a bad brake hose and not letting the caliper release.
