Hi all, picked up a cast iron "I believe" saginaw 4 speed at a swap meet today for $40. Seems to be okay. Can anyone please decode, maybe tell me the year of original application??? The numbers are

    On the cover:
    GM 4
    338935 K
    F 13

    Small identification tag:
    352128342

    On the Linkage side:
    GM 6261886

    On the tail shaft:
    362254

    Thanks
    Jay

i can tell u that the saginaw 4spds were only for engines with less than 300 hp. basically 350 engines with 2 bbl carb or any 307 v8.

Is that because they are not strong? I have 350 with mild cam and headers w/3.08 gears. Saginaw okay in your opinion?

The sags are not as strong as the t-10, or muncies. I ran a sag last season, while rebuilding my muncie. Behind a 401, and it held up ok. I didnt beat it too hard. The saginaw 3 speeds are real good trannys, it wasnt until they jambed in a 4th gear, that they started having problems. I would run it, and if it doesnt hold up, then swap in something else.
