    That is the transmission Control Spark advance emissions control. It is completely unnecessary and a performance/gas mileage killer. File it under spare parts. 2 side connections and there should be one at the top behind the electrical connection.

    You can replace all of that with a single vacuum hose from carburetor to vacuum advance, DONE.

    Hey Larry found this splice off the blk/pink looked like it went to a choke or something on the side of my carburetor. Can this wire be removed. I can’t find it on any diagrams and think it’s part of the smog system.

    First, there is no electric choke on a 72 Skylark. That looks like the connection to the TSC solenoid pictured in post #21.

    @Skylark-72
    It is a factory splice, in case you were wondering.

    So that whole wire doesn’t need to be connected to anything? This is what it the other side of the black-pink splice went to this switch on the side of the carburetor.

    That's the idle stop solenoid. I would keep that, it's useful for setting idle speed.

    Ok, so just keep the single black-pink to the idle stop, and remove/cap the splice since it went to the TSC Solenoid?

    Done and done. Thank you! Looks like they already installed a electronic ignition and got rid of the points. Now to make sure it’s right.
