i decided to put the MSD to work in the burnout box and use the RPM limiter.
    Drag radials 255/60-15
I set it at 4500 but seemed a bit high.
Looking for advise on proper consistent burnout.

    Cheers!

Drag radials don't need much of a burnout. Just get them heated up till a little smoke starts then stop. "Dust them off" as they say. They will get greasy otherwise.

I'm probably the last one to take drag racing advice from, but I also just give them kiss of smoke out of the water box. A short run up to 40 mph in second gear is a rough ball park for me, whatever rpm that is.

I'll start the burnout in second, as soon as I see smoke rolling shift to 3rd let off the gas and roll out of the box. If all is well you'll hear a nice little chirp when the tires grab. then you are ready.

On slicks, I give it a good smoking

Don't use any type of limiter for the burnout! Have one set as a safety net, but try to stay off of it!

With drag radials 1-2-3...run at 4000 in high gear till smoke just starts, when front end starts to lift, let off some and release line lock, stay into it some and head to line, let off and go into beams.
Works for me....with slicks I let them smoke a good bit as opposed to drag radials....

NEVER start your burn out in 1st gear when its a trans brake/manual shift start the burn out in second gear only. Starting in 1st and going to 2nd in the water box can give a huge shock to the low roller clutch in any 3 speed trans which will eventually cause damage and or failure . This is the main reason for having a manual valve body in a race car. Rev limiters cause nasty harmonic's especially if its a MSD so avoid it.

I turned the sprag inside out doing that and spent a further $5k upgrading. Always start the burnout in 2nd, get wheels spinning 3000rpm brakes on in the water, let off brake 6-7000rpm, pull top gear and enjoy the ride!

Thanks Guys, i'm laughing. my car runs 12.00 and has a 200-R4.
i'm thinking i should hold it in 1st gear and put the MSD burnout at 4500,
watch for first signs of smoke and roll out.
    Cheers!

This works for me on slicks. Am I the only one that shifts into third on a burn out? buick burn out .jpeg

I have no front brakes so I roll through the water in first, spin the tires and go to 2 and usually stop before the 330ft;)
    No limiters but the foot....

No I start in second and shift 3rd as I roll out of the box. at about .46 sec I roll into the water box.Pump up the brake and hit the line lock. Jst before the guy gives me the high sign to start my burn out I pull it into second, get em smoking hit 3rd release the line lock and roll out of the box. Second vid is looking back from outside the car. You can hear the gear change and when the tires bite

Its not a good idea to do burn out in or through the water unless you are a dragster etc with out fenders, it sprays the water all over the inner fender, while you are staging the car that water drips off the inner above on to the slicks causing traction issues.

Before I switched to a 'Glide, I did my burnouts shifting 2-3 with my TH-400 on the advice of my tranny guy. As soon as the slicks started smoking I'd pull 3rd and release the line-lock, drop the rpms a bit, and burn up to the line. I've run the 'Glide since the mid-90s and I always do my burnouts in high gear only, also on the advice of my tranny guy. RPMs around 5000 for me.
