What is the difference, if any, between the A1 and A2X cylinder heads? Are they interchangeable?

The Buick version of the 215 all used the same heads to my knowledge, I've never seen or heard otherwise.

The Oldsmobile version is totally different, they had a few different sets.

Am I able to use two A1’s together or do I actually need an A1 and A2X?

Is your block Buick or Olds. The Olds has an extra head bolt per cylinder. Count the bolt holes and make sure you get the right ones.

I have a Buick block. I read about the bolt count differences and have been paying attention. Thanks. I happen to have two A1 heads along with one A2X. I am wondering if I can use both A1’s or if I have to use an A1 and an A2X head combination. Does it matter?

I've never heard of any difference between them. I think your overthinking this whole thing.
