Can we make any Test and Tune passes on Friday or, must we practice on Thursday and qualify on Friday only?

Test and Tune should be open Thursday and Friday and qualifying usually is open on Friday and Saturday.

And, the track is usually open for practice on Thursday too, as I recall.

Patrick, I am calling you out buddy. Some of you might wonder why I am calling out Patrick. Because he’s a blast! Let me tell you what I did with my car today to get it ready for the races. I know, some of you were gonna think I’m shaving the rules, and I am. That’s how you win.
I spent the last two days ordering a gasket for that crazy little thing that’s in between the right exhaust manifold and the right downpipe. You all know what I’m talking about. The idiot before me that I bought the car off of somehow put it together without the gasket in between the two flat surfaces of that thingamajighe and the exhaust manifold. At first I ordered the wrong parts, gaskets and they did not fit. So I went to custom exhaust and they found me a gasket that fit perfectly. They recommended installing it with that copper silicone stuff. I followed their instructions. My exhaust leak is now solved. Go ahead and laugh at me, now I hear an exhaust leak on the other side. No time to fix it because I have racing on my mind.

The first thing I knew I had to do to make my car compete was to set the ignition timing, and spark plug gap. I followed Larry the Wizard’s instructions to the T. Below you can see the perfect picture of what my spark plug gap looks like. You guys are going to lose. 4D22132A-94F1-4566-A2E6-836415A7DD31.png

First I should say that I have sponsors. I would like to thank Lucas for sending me the picture of the perfect spark plug gap. Thank you Lucas! Instead of putting your name on the side of my car I put the picture you gave me so I could get my spark plugs gapped correctly. I bet my pistons are so happy. Can’t believe I said that.

Next, in a previous post I alleged that I was going to race with my white wall tires. There is most definitely some logic in this thought. From past experiences at the racetrack I see that some cars with very big tires go slow, so I figured if I had skinny narrow tires, they would cut the air much better. So I am going to be running some 215 x 75 x 14 tires. Whitewall of course. These are some heavy duty Hancock tires, and they are rated for 44 psi. Yes, they are going to be fully inflated for less friction.

Did I tell you about my full hubcaps? Yes, I waxed them a lot. They are going to literally fly through the air. Sorry for the unfair advantage guys but you got to do what you gotta do.

Oh heck, I forgot one more unfair advantage I have. When I took the cover off the car today and fired it up, do you know what the gas gauge said? It didn’t say a damn thing. OK, the gas gauge read at 3/4 of a tank. I don’t even have to buy any gas for the car in Bowling Green! When you guys are racing on that expensive 2022 gas I have some prewar premium in my car. Now that is definitely unfair, but I don’t care.

Replying to subscribe. And babble!!!! (Hopefully humorously...)
Waterboy/John. While we are most impressed by the "gap," we trust that your spark plugs have less!!! LOL!!! (I have just discovered that today no "parts store" plug has a gap less than 45...)
While I may or may not be "ethically prohibited" (SEC rules, and what not...) from suggesting a favorite, I am rooting for the '68 that is blue below the belt line, and white above. LOL!!!!

I do contend that my much derided "volcano" Deluxe Wheel Covers provided an aerodynamic advantage...

Dang Nicolas, now I think I should wax my four hubcaps one more time and I noticed my left rear tire needs the white wall cleaned. I’ll do it tomorrow morning at the campground. :)

"Should be fun" being the opperant phrase. Having played in these waters for many years, the simple idea of "stock appearing" Buicks going at it brings me to levels of ecstasy which I shouldn't describe here LOL!!!

Yes, I watched Jim's "Stock appearing" GS go 10.96 at 128 last year so, I'm expecting my real 93 octane 10.5 car to receive a lesson in BSA.

The quickest car has never won the class!

There sure are a LOT of changes in the class since it was started. The rules were really strict back then. All castings, and manifolds, had to be correct for the given year of the car. And rules were tighter. I recall when it started the quickest cars were :
Frank Urbinat's, Greg Gessler's, Les Otte's and Duane's GSX . And there ended up being quite a few in the class. It was also fun when it was Pro Tree Heads Up. Duane and Greg were usually quickest in the class. And Would beat each other. Changing licks from year to year. Duane's GSX ran an 11:40 ET back in the early 90'S and it was the class record for low ET at the time. While held for several years. It was putting out well over 500 HP with all the original factory correct iron castings and using the HEMI KILLER cam that we promoted for Richard at the time. I will have to add that the GSX was the stockest appearing in the class, and in between time trails ,and racing would go in the car show with the rest of the GSX'S on display and win at least a second place. We would NEVER alter or modify a original GSX . I think it might be time to take Duane's GSX out and get it up and running again. Nice to see the class has survived well. Hope everyone has a good time in BG running the class .You guys certainly all come out winners. And good luck to who ever actually wins the bracket race.

No Doubt, things have changed. And it ISN’T the same class as we remember. As I recall, it was “BSS” when it was a stock appearing heads-up race class.
Les Otte was my hero, and I remember an 11.47. Competing in that class was my dream, but I was, genealogically, and thus financially, 10 years “behind the curve.”
From what I remember it became non-competitive. Maybe the final four was competitive, but no other car had a chance. As much as I wanted to build an 11 second stock appearing car, I couldn’t, and only a handful of folks did.
As much as I “hated” bracket racing, I raced in the “slow” bracket every year, and began bracket racing at my home track. I grew to like it.
As much as I wish there were 16 competitive stock appearing GSs for a heads up class, that just ain’t gonna happen.
I hear ya on “How it used to be.” A heads up class today would be Jim Rodgers running a bye. (I gather Starc may be trying to “make a race of it…”)
Current BSA gets almost two dozen non-header cars on the track. As much as I miss BSS, I’ll take BSA any day!
