Trying again to rally the BUICK car guys for some drag racing. We got rained out 9/17.

Saturday 10/8 is the better venue day of the weekend. As of now if the weather is going to be good, I would prefer Saturday, but it is currently not looking dry. The weather is looking better Sunday 10/9, and I think there is better chance of more guys being available.

Stay tuned. Post here with interest, availability, and coordination.

Cars and spectators encouraged to join us.

    Cheers!

At least you won't be up against a Seahawks game if it ends up on Sunday.

You are up against the IronMan World Championship in Kona on Saturday, so I am out, as I will be there watching my wife race.

Although there are some streaming options, the rest of us have to wait until December... yes, December! to see the tv broadcast. That's ridiculous, but I guess times are tough and they need to make sure to get that sponsor money even though everyone who cares will know who won.

That being said... good luck, Jess!

    Thanks Steve!

I think you can watch finish line coverage and track racers at ironmanlive, but you are right, TV options suck!

I've got it penciled in, if it ends up being Sunday. But it is a 70-mile one way drive for me, so weather can be a decisive factor.
Is the entrance still of Old Clifton, or did they move it to Hwy 3?

Hi Steve, yeah, that is a trek...you and yours are welcome to stay at our place if that helps in the travel...PM me if that is a consideration for you.

Buchannon is planning on racing and I am waiting to hear from Biggs.

The street to the gate / entrance is the same. The gate moved and it is a gravel road to the gate from the street.

Its a BUICK wasteland these days....

    Cheers!

Thanks for the offer - she'll likely be working some or most of the weekend, based on recent weekends.

I haven't had a Buick since Chris bought the 72 Skylark and scavenged the motor for his convert. Always keeping my eye out for a toy, but no time or desire for a project. But I do miss making passes at the strip.

Obviously didn't happen today. Things are somewhat iffy for tomorrow, as of now.

The weather permitted for racing Sunday, but it was drawn out affair as the track had to be dried, and during the day was s low poke between classes. They finally stared time trials at 11:00am.

They only got two time trials in before going to brackets due to late start. I had to leave after my second time trial run so I didn't run any brackets, but no traction wasn't going to change anything for me so no worries.

I did do what I wanted which was get a couple runs in, and the GoPro set up and record the runs. I got some useful info from the one video I took. I apparently didn't push the record button for the second run :TU:

The bottom line is without slicks, and more driver experience, there stands no chance for me to get the Street Sleeper into the 12's let alone the 11's, but the mph is certainly there.

    First Run
    0.089 R/T - - sleepy
3.087 60' - - spinning tires had to get out of it then hit it again
    9.89 1/8th mile @ 86.53 mph
    12.32 1000'
    1/4 14.356@ 111.25 mph

    Second Run
    0.205 R/T - -snoozing
    2.578 60' - - spinning tires
    8.84 1/8th mile @ 89.46 mph
    11.21 1000'
    1/4 13.196 @ 114.15 mph

I actually let out of the throttle as I passed the clock stand for some reason so didn't get through the traps at WOT :Dou:

All and all, good day. Drove the car to and from the track, made a couple passes and it was great having Ken race his 70 car and Dean joining us.

There are some pretty impressive cars out here and needless to say, a stick shifted Big Block BUICK (which is very well put together and shows well if I do say so myself) is quite a conversation piece.

I am looking forward to next year and getting the slicks on it.

    Cheers!

  12. Mark,

Glad you were able to get it out there again. You're right, it needs a tire under the car. It will definitely help, although the street tires are probably saving the tranny at this point......

With the MPH you have, you should be in the 12.1X area with a 4 speed based on my experience.

Amature hour! Having fun with a BBB row boat.

Here's the first and only run I got on video Sunday. Burn out was in 1st gear; Second pass I changed to doing the burnout in second gear for a good tire warming...made better tire speed!

Left line dumping clutch at 3800 rpm WOT hit torque peak and instant tire fire...pedaled the clutch and let off the throttle and got into it again to try and find some traction, and get ended up the end about 2 seconds early...

so far I have trapped 116.7 when held through the trap and that was a 2.60 - 60'

I wish I had the second run video....:TU:
