On my 68 Skylark my brake warning light comes on when my parking lights/ headlights are turned to the on position. There is a light brown wire under the dash that was connected to the parking brake pedal at one time ( pict ) . When I connect it to the pedal , key on position, results in brake light with more brightness than when turning on the headlight switch . I’m getting 12 V from that wire also w/ key on . The pedal is fully up . Under the hood looking down at the junction block there is a round connector with no wire attached ( pict ) . Too add to this cluster*#•ck , I have a brittle wire coming out of the firewall with a round boot that has a female connector ( pict ) . Tried but this plug does not fit on the round connector block fitting. My yuh gut tells me this lone wire should go to the block but some kind of adapter would be needed. This wire is bare in many spots & looks to be not used for some time. Any and all opinions valued

You can adjust the emergency pedal switch. You need to adjust the cable slack per the shop manual, then adjust the switch.. If you do not have one I can post the steps.

The meter/distrbution block should have a switch that that female booted connector is attached .

Can you post a good pick of the block?

Have to get it on stands and probably get a better one from underneath

Ok. I'm curious if the block may have been changed and is incorrect, or if the switch is broken or missing.

I may have that tan wire and connector, and can put the correct terminal on it which goes the the firewall connector if you want to change it.

You will need to pull the brake master cylinder (and booster if you have one) to get working space for the wire.

(I dislike butt splicing, but that is an option.)

Let me see if I have the correct wire and round connector.

Your round connector appears correct, but may be hardened/shrunk due to age, oil and heat. You can use this. It is the correct connector.

The "Bright" brake light is the "Parking brake on", indication, and either parking break is on, cables not adjusted or switch is bad. (And rare case shorted switch wire to ground( The "dim" comes on only if the pigtail is connected, the distribution block switch is functioning and any of several failure conditions are met.

The pigtail I have is fuel tank sender, but I had to dig it out to be sure.
