72 skylark drag car. How can I wire up the brake light switch without the steering column turn signal wires? Possible? Thanks.

Run a separate circuit - are you trying to use the existing wire harness?

Want to use existing wires except for the wires on the steering column. Would the brown and green wires on the connector that the column plugged into be the L and R taillights. Then just run a power wire to brake switch. Wiring is not my strong point!!!

Why would you want to do this? There should be a tail light harness plug in the trunk.

Like everything else I believe im overthinking this. The column I have has no turn signal switch or wires. Don’t need the turn signals anyway. Overthinking is my downfall, lol.

OK, I would locate that harness connector in the trunk, unplug it, and wire whatever you want to the that connector directly. All you need is 12 volts and ground. The tail lights and brake light bulbs are grounded, so all you need is 12 volts applied to make them work. You could wire the tail lights to a toggle or whatever switch you want. You just need 12 volts on one side, and the other side goes to the lights. Same for the brake lights. Use the existing brake light switch and wire it directly to the lights. Should be Dark Green and Brown for the tail and brake wires. Use fuses inline.

Thanks Larry. Up untill Sunday I never realized the turn signal switch had anything to do with the brake lights.
