I have had to add water to my car the last two races . and it seem to run hot as the raceday goes ( do to the water going down) been watching videos and it is smoking going down the track .I pulled the plug on the drivers side and the #7 is rusty:error: So just checking before I pull it out every thing does point to the head gasket right ....I have never had a issue before but I alway have done head gaskets and bearing around 80 passes It has over 150 on it right now :3gears: here is one of the videos it is night time at a 1/8 track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXTDzK0sUqc
Have you done a leakdown test? Hope its not too serious. As always, great to see you Massholes at Oxford.
Well the motor is out already ,I warmed it up and remove the #7 plug and steam came out the hole:error: :error: Hoping i found it soon enough I'll have the heads off tonight hopfuly have it back in the car next weekend.....
No but this motor been running since 2000 and have well over 500+ passes on it shifting at 6700 ..It had a long life...o No:
That is even less good than a head gasket. BTW I have a sleeve in my block (thanks TA) and it's held up fine for many years. -BC
After I saw this thread I was searching V8buick because I seem to think that #7 is a comman cylinder to spit but my memory is a little foggy right now. # 7 is the one that split on my 547 BBB. In my search I found a ton of people on here using sleeve's with no problems. I had a race block that had 2 sleeves that run stong for years with no problems.Chris
A sleeve is fine.. may have cracked because pistons are worn out and have to much piston to wall clearance, check this Rod
Well so far I have been told that if I sleeve the bad cylinder that i'll have to bore the whole block over because it will egg the cylinder #5 which means new piston etc....Just want this motor to last to end of this season because I knew it was getting tired And want to build a 494 so might just be out of luck till next year .....if I could just sleeve the one put it back together I would try that but doesn't sound that easy...has anyone had any luck just fixing one cylinder??? without over boring the rest??
I'm no expert, but that doesn't sound right to me. I've had small block chev's sleeved and never recall having to bore the entire block and add new pistons. I might be missing something? Scott Pettit
machine shop is trying to take you to the bank:dollar:. You can do just one cylinder and not have any problems with the rest.
I have fixed one hole and went 7.40 the next weekend, put a sleeve in it knock the glaze off the rest of the cyclinders and race it....
Nice! That was quick, hope it didn't put too big of a dent in your wallet. Dumb question. I thought that the pistons themselves weren't really a wear item. Obviously the rings will wear, and the cylinders will wear, but do the pistons also wear? -Bob C.
