my 72 Riviera recently started blowing the 20 amp fuse for turn signals, back up lamps etc. When I turn on the emergency flashers they all work except for left rear, the bulbs are good there. Any help diagnosing my problem is greatly appreciated!
First you need to determine which one of those is actually blowing the fuse Is it the Back up lights ? Is it the Turn signals ? Is it the TCS solenoid ? My quick guess is the idle stop solenoid . It has the tendency to short the spade terminal against the case of the solenoid . Its where the wire plugs into the spade .
There is a lot of things that can cause this. I had the same problem with my 69 GS400. After many hours of trouble shooting and unplugging all of the harnesses, I narrowed it down to the main harness under the dash. While pulling it out for inspection, I found the reverse light wire was pinched in the floor shifter mechanism. Every time you took it out of park it would pinch the wire and blow the fuse. Get a wiring diagram and start checking over everything on that circuit.
thanks for the tips! Ended up disconnecting idle stop and tcs solenoids, pulled the 40 amp power window circuit breaker. Put a new fuse in and directionals all work without blowing the fuse. Reconnected idle stop and tcs, directionals still working. Seems to be a power window problem, none of my books has anything about power windows, could it be the relay,is that the relay in the photo {square silver}?
